Jenna babbles a lot...she says things like ahhh, mmmm, ooooh, shhhh, ththth,...but no mama or dada. No words at all, just sounds. She also doesn't point, wave, or clap. She does however crawl EVERYWHERE and pulls up to stand on furniture and has been for a month now. She reponds to her name and recognizes me and DH. She'll look for me when he asks, "where's mama" so I know she can hear and understands some language. I talk to her constantly and we've been starting to use baby signs too.

I was lurking in the Jan PR and a lot of those babies are saying mama and dada and doing things like pointing and waving. So I'm a bit worried that Jenna isn't. She is 7 months, when are you supposed to worry if they aren't making words or doing those other things?

J.J started with "dada" at 6 months. He is 13 months now and babbles a LOT and says about 15 words I can understand and only 1 phrase which is "whats that". I think waving was around 7-8 months. I think if she is not doing that by a year, i'd worry. You also have to remember that its the internet, parents always want to make their kids seem smarter so probably half those kids are not even doing that yet

Dada was 6 months for both. Taylor started talking really early, saying things like "look mama, I jump" at 9 months. Rylie is MUCH slower. She's going to be 18 months old and I know she says less than 10 words no matter how much I work with her LoL.

Both my boys are slow talkers. Dustin is just starting to say actual words. He says a handful of them. There were sounds and stuff but I never really considered babbling to be words.

I think many people consider babbling sounds to be words. Jaxon says mamamama and dadadada all the time, but I don't consider it speaking because they are just part of his repertoire of sounds and he doesn't actually know what they mean. He doesn't wave or point yet either and is 11 months tomorrow.

Oliver started saying Dada around 6 months. He started saying "Hi Dada" soon after. He was clapping his hands around 9 months. I wouldn't worry about it. She is fine.

He hasn't yet!

He's 16 months. He babbles a ton, saying lots of syllables. He'll carry on a conversation with you even though you have no idea what he's saying. And he understands words like when we say bye bye he waves or I say eat and he runs for his high chair. Bu the has yet to say anything, not even mama or dada.

The doctor is starting ot worry and so is my over paranoid family. But I think it's normal. He was standing with support at 3 months old and walking at 10 months. I really think kids concentrate on some areas more than others.

She was babbling from around 6/7 months but she started clearly using words around 10 months and we hasn't stopped since.

Dominic is 9 months, and he does a ton of the babbling and has said "mama" with intention (i.e. while looking at me trying to get my attention) like 2 or 3 times. Another thing Dominic loves to do now is play a call-and-response game with me. He says a sound, I mimic it, he does another sound. Then we switch and he'll mimic me. He responds to his name about half the time. He waves once in a great while when someone is saying bye-bye, but NEVER to me, because he doesn't like when I leave. He has clapped his hands before maybe twice?... never pointed that I can think of... he'll reach for things he wants but not really point. He bobs his head to music, feeds himself cheerios and high-fives consistently. Then again, if I went by what I read on JM I'd think I had a delayed baby in some areas such as crawling. He began scooting around at 7 months and crawling at 8 months. He is still working on pulling up onto furniture, and at this point he hates standing with support so I don't see walking on the horizon anytime soon. I think, as some others have pointed out, that kids concentrate on one area at a time really. Dominic has cut 7 teeth in 3 months and is working on his 8th which I think has taken some of his energy/attention away from other milestones. You have an early crawler and puller-upper so my guess is she's been concentrating on mastering physical coordination skills. My baby reference book says that babies generally start using words around one year old, but that it may be anytime between 9 to 18 months. I really wouldn't be worried for any of our kids unless they weren't communicating at all, didn't respond to what they hear, or if they got to about 18 months without saying any words (could be a speech delay).

The fact that she responds to her name is a good sign, I wouldn't worry about whether she's saying mama or dada yet. They say by 8 months they should say mama and dada asking for you, but don't distinguish which one is specifically mama and which one is dada, they just know it's one of you. Kylie started calling mama the past 3 weeks when she really wants something. No real words though, just babbling. I am not worried because she does respond to her name, and recognizes familiar people and follows them when they leave. I also have to agree that it's the internet, and everyone wants their child to be the smartest, farthest ahead, etc. They also mistake babbles for words, mama and dada are typical babbles, just like baba is.

She's still really young! the fact that she responds to her name is fine. Play some games with her to get her to wave, point, clap etc....but still she's so young still I'm sure it's fine!
