We saw the pedatric gastroenterologist this morning. He was VERY informative out of all the doctors thus far. (He is very very good!)

He says with everything we've done to try and help JJ's reflux, the fact that he still has it, can be suggestive that he DOES NOT have it. That he might have something called allergenic esophogitis. Since we know he has allergies -- and we've tested the main stuff, there might be something else we don't know about. (Obviously something strange -- like bananas or barley or something obscure)

He would like to do an upper GI series and place a PH probe for 24 hours to confirm reflux. HOWEVER!

He and we agree that we are going to wait to do that until after his adenoids are removed. If by December 1st, he is still miserable, we will do the upper GI series and PH probe.

The most alarming note of the day, was that he has A LOT of blood in his stool. We can't see it (microscopic) but it was VERY positive. He said that can come from anything and at this point, while it is alarming, it is not a cause for concern unless he is dripping blood from his bum. This can be suggestive of a lot of things, so he told us not to jump to any conclusions.

So the plan right now:

Remove adenoids, place ear tubes.

Wait 3 weeks.

If better, Good. Continue checks every 6 months with ENT, Gastro, Allergist.
If not better, Upper GI series and PH probe before Christmas.
If negative for reflux, stop meds, more indepth skin allergy testing ASAP.
If positive, corrective surgery (in 2011), or aggressively treat reflux.

I am so excited that there is a light at the end of this tunnel. I just want my baby to be happy and healthy and actually SLEEP at night.

I certainly can share in your excitement after reading your post. This sounds like a good plan. I hope everything works out and J.J problems are fully discovered so that you can finally know what causes what.

I hope you get it all figured out!

Matthew had blood in his stool (microscopic) for quite some time as well. We think from milk protein allergy. He tested negative on all his blood tests for allergies. We are STILL trying to figure out what he and can't have. It's tough. He had reflux as well and we had a devil of a time getting him weaned off Prevacid.

Good luck and sounds like your Dr has a great plan!

What about celiacs? That isn't always found with a blood test. The GI docs at Nationwide Children's told me it had a very high false neg rate.

Thanks ladies

Missy -- I asked. He does not have any of the symptoms. Iron levels are well, no runs or constipation, he is gaining weight normally, no FTT. They said the bleeding could have been from something simple, like a fissure from pushing out poop, or something more serious -- but right now we are leaning towards the not so serious. He gave us more cards to send into him with poop samples on them to see if he still has blood there or not.
