My step dad has had health problems ever since he and my mom got together. Lung tumor, but couldn't do a biopsy because of heart stints they had put in that had some medicine in them----never have understood that. But his BP went way up the other night again, they thought perhaps a stint had gone bad. So off to the er where they kept him. they noticed his left pupil was larger than the right and he'd been staggering a lot. No one ever thought this was important til now, he'd never told the dr and my mom never said anything. Well they just found out he has a brain tumor! The dr said it was a very good chance it was cancer and he didn't think they'd clear him for surgery because of his heart and lungs his brother is dying now with cancer, he's lost a parent and other siblings to cancer. I just don't understand! He makes my mom so happy, my mom lost my dad to lung cancer. I don't even know what to think, what to do..... I'm so upset!

Got more info: they are gonna biopsy in a week. He has to be off the plavix for 7 days first, and he took it today. Heart dr came in and cleared him saying it was more important, and he had some small arteries that are about 20% blocked but she thought his heart would be fine for biopsy or surgery. Neurosurgeon is going to be in soon. They aren't sure if they are just gonna biopsy or try to remove it at the same time. It is on the small side---my mom said roughly as big as her little finger, and in the cerebrum.

Just talked to my mom and they are thinking about not doing an MRI tomorrow and just doing the biopsy as soon as his platelet count are good. The nurse told them if the counts are good before 7 days then they are planning on doing it sooner. I'm so worried for him and my mom is so upset. She called me crying asking me why things like this happen. My heart breaks and I have no way of making her feel better.

Thank you. After all of this happening yesterday I didn't go to the bank yesterday, forgot today was the 5th and i had my bill pay set up to come out today! 7 bills, no money in there. Acct was -5 bucks this morning and i hope I canceled the others in time, otherwise that's gonna be nearly $200 in fees!

Bill pay canceled in time I'm told. And I talked to my mom. His regular family doc came in and said he WOULD be having an MRI first. The staggering was played down due to a pain pump he has that uses snail venom (venom?) anyway snail something for the pain. A side effect is staggering. Now hearing that has caused me to wondering if the spot they see as a tumor could be scarring from an accident he had that led to the pain pump in the first place. He was hit in the head on a construction site. The hit was so bad it actually caused some brain damage and damaged something about his back and he's had multiple surgeries to try and correct the back problems so they gave him the pain pump because of nerve damage or something like that. I'm not too sure on those details but I do know he was hit very hard and wasn't expected to live at that time. But that was many years ago. They'd not even have checked his head had it not been for the staggering. And that started just after his pain pump thing, they told the pain dr who laughed and said he was experiencing the "staggering side effects" of the pain drugs in the pump.
