I can't believe his surgery is Monday!!!
I am a nervous wreck but am not trying to lead on too much about it. I am severely concerned about him and anesthesia because anesthesia and my family (and me) do NOT get along. We've told all his doctors and the anesthesiologist and they all agree he should probably not be premeditated given my, and my families history. (I have stopped breathing before, my blood pressure and oxygen levels dip very low, and I wake up terribly, vomiting uncontrollably, sheet white, etc) however the actual anesthesiologist that day is going to be the one to make the call. Heck, I think I might need Valium that day or something.
Anyway, hes passed all his medical and hearing clearance exams. He finally had a well baby check up today and was the healthiest hes ever been. He is 95th percentile in height and 50th percentile in weight. I got tall and skinny! His hearing is fine, he has fluid in his ears (that will be drained Monday when they put in the tubes) and he is going great! Made all his 12,15 and 18 month milestones and in addition is verbally and cognitively functioning on a 22-24 month old level. (Which i guess explains why everything is "no" and "mine". We've hit the terrible 2's early!)
I am still waiting for the hospital to call with the time for Monday but we should probably be first at 7:30 with a 6:15 arrival. If we are not first we are gonna be second (they go by age order, so 2nd spot is 9am with arrival of 7:45). He has to not have anything after midnight because he is a reflux baby and has delayed gastric emptying. However he is being allowed 2oz at 4am for his Zantac).
We are still waiting on further allergy testing results (Pork, Barley and cottonseed oil). We know he is allergic to one of those.
So thats that with that for now Wish us luck on Monday!

Good luck!! Hope it all goes smoothly and our brave little guy will get some relief from all those challenges he's faced so far. One thing's for sure, he's going to be a tough little cookie!

Good luck! Let me know if you have any specific questions about pediatric anesthesia. Don't forget to tell them he's allergic to eggs. And be forewarned that kids his age usually wake up inconsolable and crazy. VERY normal.

Nik - We already told them and spoke with the allergist. Since he has a specific egg allergy to egg whites both feel propofol is safer then the alternative they have of ketamine (heck i would not even use that in an animal when i was doing anesthesia!)
I get to be there when they mask him down and when he wakes up so I am hoping that it helps a bit. I fully expect him to wake up screaming though (he wakes up screaming most mornings anyway)

Good luck Sam and JJ! JJ is lucky you've done your homework and have really took the time to take and active role in his medical care.
I used to work in a PICU and the kiddos getting ears done with a complicated medical history would come to us first. Nik is sure right about the acting crazy thing. If the kiddo was small and stable, I'd let mom climb in bed and cuddle them...or hold them in one of those fold up chair/bed things lots of the rooms have now. Don't be afraid to ask.
