Just wanted to get a quick opinion on this...
I bought a pair of jeans on ebay recently. Shipping was like $7.65. So now that the auction ended I got a message from the seller:
"Hi - I went to the post to mail off pants. I did not charge enough to cover postage to Texas. I need additional $2 to cover postage. If you would like me to cancel order and return full refund to you, let me know.
My apologizes for the inconvenience. Thanks."
Okay first off I really don't think it should cost almost $10 to ship a pair of jeans from CA to TX. Do you think she's just trying to get more money out of me? The auction probably didn't bring in as much $ as she thought they were going to, I'm getting them fairly cheap.
I want the jeans so I thought about paying the $2, but I thought well, she should just suck up the cost since she made the mistake.
If it were you, how would you respond?
Oh and she only has 30 feedback, so I guess she is more new at ebay.

Depends how she is shipping it and what size box she put it in.
I would pay her the 2 dollars but with the stipulation that if the postage on the box is not 9.65 you want a refund.

I wouldn't pay it....when you sell, you pick a shipping price and sometimes you win (you make money cause shipping doesn't cost that much) and sometimes you lose....she/he should learn this about ebay. You have a "contract" with this person for the amount they charged you so say you want to cancel/refund and that you are going to post feedback to this effect....they may say they'll give it to you then for the originally agreed upon price.

Exactly.
It's tough cookies for her, she's contractually obligated to send that item to you for the price the auction ended at plus the shipping amount she declared. Let her know you will not be sending more money OR accepting a refund and will file a claim with eBay if she doesn't send the item to you.

What happens to her if she tries to just cancel the auction and refund the money? I really don't want the auction canceled/money refunded. All the other jeans like this cost more b/c they are "buy it now". I'd rather pay $2 than have the auction canceled BUT I agree that I shouldn't have to do that. In theory she should eat the cost.

Don't go for it. I sell on ebay a lot and lately there are a lot of scammers, sellers and buyers. As a seller, there have been times I under-priced on shipping and I make up the difference, I would NEVER ask somebody to send more money. You won the auction, if she doesn't send the item, file a complaint with ebay. Ebay will side with you.

Just sent them an email back..
Hello xxxxxxx,
I am sorry to hear that shipping costs are more than you expected. However, it is against ebay policy for a seller to ask for additional funds after an auction has ended.
Selling practices policy
"Examples of prohibited behavior include:
Entering an amount for shipping costs when you're listing an item, and then indicating that you charge a different amount either in the item description or after the buyer has committed to buying the item "
I do not wish to cancel the order and expect that the original terms of the auction will be honored. Thank you for your understanding.

Good response.
It is the sellers responsibility to come up with an estimate for shipping that should be as accurate as possible. They cant go back on that now, if it were me even if I REALLY wanted the pants...that would raise a red flag for me because they should know they cant do that and I would cancel the whole thing. But what you did is good, showing them that ebay doesnt allow it and they dont have a choice. Are they a power seller?

Nope, not a power seller. They've been on ebay since 2006 and just 31 feedback (all positive).
I haven't gotten a response back yet!

NO reply but she refunded my money! But the auction is not canceled so ebay is showing that I'm supposed to pay for it. I guess she is hoping I will cancel it?! I don't know if she has the ability to cancel it or not, but I'm not doing it until I get this resolved, one way or another.
I'm mulling over what to do next. Either send her a message telling her if she does not honor our agreement, I will file an NPS (non performing seller) with ebay and leave negative feedback OR just do it without even sending the message first and giving her the "one last chance".
