Disclaimer: Just a rant, not trying to start a debate or anything.

We can't seem to get a vaccine without getting sick. My poor baby. She hasn't been sick once except for when she gets her vaccines. At two months she did fine. Four months she got a fever of 101 and was just miserable. Six months got broken up across two visits over a couple of weeks. First time the entire household got sick with rotavirus. It almost put my poor husband in the hospital (he was on major antibiotics for a sinus infection so his immune system was weakened). We just finished up her 6 month shots on Friday and here we are, fever and major chest congestion to the point that her breathing makes constant noise. I can feel the vibrations of the junk in her chest if I put my hands on her ribcage. I'm kinda worried about her (whooping cough). She's losing her voice and everything. Her cough isn't too bad, yet. I'm hoping it subsides before it gets bad. If she still has it tomorrow I'm taking her back to the doctor. My poor little angel.

I feel kinda bad. I wanted to do a very delayed vaccine schedule, but with her in daycare I figured I better not. And now here we are, sick every two months. Other than the vaccines, she's healthy as a horse. *sigh*

ETA: I meant to ask, has anyone else had this many problems with vaccines? I was under the impression that getting sick from them is not the norm.

That is no fun. I was going to ask about delaying until she is a bit older but I understand with having her in daycare. Plus the center might require her to have them. I hope she is feeling better soon.

Poor baby... I hope she feels better soon. We haven't had any issues with vaccines so far.

Matthew has only had 1 vaccine, so I don't have any advice for you on that. But I did want to say that if you choose to delay/selectively vax, it is very easy to opt out in Texas. I just did it for Matthew for his mother's day out program. You order some (free) afadavit forms online and check which vaccines she won't be getting and then get the form notarized. I didnt have any trouble with it.

I hope she is feeling better soon!

Poor baby

I just wanted to add, J.J is in daycare and has zero vaccines and has never caught anything that could be prevented with a vaccine. No rotavirus, no RSV, nothing.

nothing yet here either, so I can't answer that. but I know there are some people who do kind of a prep/boost of the immune system before they vaccinate, or do a detox post vaccine. I'm sure the choosing not to vaccinate board would have more info on that.
I hope she gets better soon

Brayden literally had no immune system and didn't react like that. could she be picking up something at the pedi's office? usually with a poor immune system one more of treatment is called Challenging where they do a super dose of vax's to challenge the immune system (DTaP, Prevnar and pneumo vax i think was the combo used) and then keep them inside for a month in as clean and germ free environment as possible because they immune system is working overtime building up to the shots and not there to fight off infections. Bad illustration so I hope you get the gist. I'm wondering if perhaps it is something kinda in the same area where the vax's just weaken her for a bit and it leaves her vulnerable to infection afterwards. The vax's themselves aren't going to do it, especially not the entire household. A fever for 24hrs yes, but chest congestion etc no.

Thanks for all the input. I'm really getting worried. Her lungs crackle when she breathes. I'm definitely taking her straight to the doctor tomorrow. I googled, and I know that's a no no, but now I'm freaked out thinking maybe I should have taken her to the doctor sooner... but when I called the nurse line Saturday they just said if she still has problems on monday to bring her in. I told the nurse Charlotte's lungs were making noise and I can actually feel it from the outside, but she didn't seem to concerned. But I didn't use the word "crackle" and now I wish I would have because that might have gotten her attention...? I don't know, maybe google just has me worked up about the crackling.

She's getting worse. She's coughed in her sleep a couple of times already, and today I heard her make a very mild "whoop" sound while coughing.

Keep us posted! Sounds like maybe whooping cough or croup? Oh and RSV is going around here like crazy! Matthew had it a couple weeks ago.

a wet crackle sound wouldn't have got the nurses attention more. Does she have a fever currently? Is she coughing anything up? Can you see what color it is if she is? Can you hear the crackles on exhale or inhale or both?
Try to make her cough, that should help the crackle sounds. Also kind of cup your hands and pound on her back some "like she is a drum", that should also help loosen that stuff up so it helps clear it out. And keep her hydrated....crackles are good because it means its loose in there, what you don't want is it to get thick and stick in there.....that can give you some pneumonia.

Bella is usually the only one that gets sicks from her vaccines. She usually gets a fever for like 3-4 days!! This time around, we were all getting over having the flu and both me and Bella are congested as all get up. shes got a super we cough, and just nastyness Trying to keep her as warm as possible, and get her over this. Pedi wanted to push antibiotics and something else but I said no....

We had the standard mild fever with a few shots but that was it. I'm hoping it's just a cold and she feels better soon.

Well she went to the doctor today. She said although it sounds like the crackle is coming from low in her lungs, it is actually in her airway, which is good. She gave me warning signs to look for and said if it doesn't go away in 10 days to come back -- that could indicate whooping cough. She said it is normal for them to choke some and lose their breath when they cough.

Angela -- to answer your questions, no she doesn't have a fever any more. The crackling was on inhale and exhale. She coughed something up once and DH said it was greenish, but hasn't coughed up anything since. That was Saturday. She does seem a little better today than she was yesterday.

Whooping cough starts out as a bad cold.....they only test + for it for the first week to two weeks. a round of antibiotics to prevent them from spreading it is the main form of treatment along with breathing treatments. But it takes about 4wks or so for the whoop sound to get there if it was whooping cough. And when I saw gobs of mucous I mean there was enough fluid to literally fill a coffee cup! I would suck out his throat and nose every 30mins and fill the xtra large syringe from his birth twice each time! And he would cough so hard he'd vomit and turn purple----and he coughed for 24hrs every other breath. I only say all that so you don't get scared from hearing that whoopy sound. It doesn't sound like the pertussis Brayden had at all. Google sounds of pertussis to hear it. It happens frequently when they cough hard and then take in a deep breath gaspy breath right after. Brayden does that ALL the time when he coughs and it always concerns me because it does sound a lot like when he had it, but not as severe. Sounds more like croup to me or RSV....though RSV would have a pretty good fever with where croup would most likely be around 100-102 tops. cool air is best if it is croup and a humidifier. Also if she gets really congested and really coughing hard you can take her in the bathroom and turn the shower on as hot as it will get and let her breath the steam. Saline drops will help clear her. And you can ask your dr if you can give her a bit of benadryl....usually at such a tiny age it's roughly 1/4 tsp that is safe. When Brady was about her age they gave him a med called Histex and it was awesome....but no longer given to lil ones.

Poor baby Camden hasn't had many problems at all, just a fever and irritability that lasts about a day. I hope she gets better soon!

Whooping cough is the same as croup right? When Ian gets croup, he gets sick for MAYBE 2 or 3 days then BAM hes got croup. Ive never had to take up to 4 weeks for it to start.

Im glad shes better today than yesterday, Bella is as well. Slowly but surley they will get over it...

No whooping cough is NOT the same as croup. Croup is basically an inflammation of the bronchials and even throat that causes a cough that sounds like a seal barking. It will last longer in kids with asthma.

Whooping cough is pertussis. It will come on like a cold that lingers.....kinda bad cold similar to RSV. Then after bout 2-4wks the cough sets in and stays for 3months or longer. Brayden got sick in November (first week) and didn't get better til almost March! He took 1 round of zithromax early on to prevent an ear infection then they heard the whoop and tested him for that. Whooping cough can in a lot of cases lead to pneumonia and it did in him. He NEVER tested + for whooping cough at the time due to the antibiotics and the fact that after 2 weeks the bacteria that causes it isn't present anymore for testing. He tested + for strep pneumo and then a blood test a few months later at the immunologist showed the proof that he had in fact been infected with pertussis. After the first few weeks his cough wasn't persistent all day, he would get attacks 3 or 4 times a day and in between he was fine, just really congested. I took him to the dr 3 times and each time we got lucky and he whooped for them. His treatment (since he had already had the round of antibiotics) was breathing treatments with albuterol (every 5mins at times) and pulmicort with Orapred and any antihistamine I could find to give him some comfort. his O2 dropped in the 80s and had he not improved to 89/90 after 4hrs in the pedi's office he would have been hospitalized. So yeah Whooping cough is above and beyond what croup ever dreamed of being. He gets croup at least once a year. Pertussis is generally a 1 time and you're immune for years and years or even life.

I should also add there was an outbreak here at the same time Brady was sick. That is something to look into because here if they suspect whooping cough they give a week of antibiotics to prevent it from spreading.

I thought the same thing with vaccines, because Kylie was getting sick after each one. Then somebody pointed out it might not be the vaccines, but maybe being in a doctor's office where tons of germs are floating around in the air. Kylie has had some bad colds, even RSV, she seems to catch everything. I guess it's expected with me working at a school and a residential house with kids, her older sister being in school, and her being in daycare. I feel like she is always sick with something. I keep the humidifier on when she gets a cold/cough, even bring her in the bathroom while I take a hot shower, let the steam get to her, it helps. I hate when babies are sick, I hope she feels better soon!
