So I had an appointment with my primary care manager today, that I scheduled several weeks ago before I found out I was pregnant. Of course I wasn't going to refill my Adderall, but I figured I might as well go to the appt anyways, that way I can get an "official" pee stick and blood work right?
Apparently not, I guess I'm just an idiot.
When the nurse takes me in for triage she asks me when my last period was. I tell her, and I tell her that I found out I was pregnant and that I need to do the official bloodwork and all that. She just looked at my like I had two heads, and kept asking me WHO did my pregnancy test, WHERE is it on record that I'm pregnant and WHY didn't I go to the OB?
Uh, I did a test at home, nowhere, and I didn't go to an OB because you can't just DO that at a military hospital, you have to get a referral. Not to mention I don't want to see an OB for my pregnancy

So she made me feel like a complete idiot and I just wanted to bolt, I seriously thought about leaving and never going back lol! But I went in to see the doctor anyways. Thankfully she was nicer.
She was mostly concerned that I thought I would just get a referral to the birth center and get it all paid for. I already know that's not happening, it's fine! So I told her how important it was to me, that I am already planning on paying for it. She was fine with that.
Then she wanted me to do this-
1. Go to the self help desk, have a urine pregnancy test
2. Wait for an appointment to see the OB nurse so I could get referred to the OB floor.
3. WAIT again to see an OB, then have the OB put in a consult for the birth center
4. The consult will obviously be denied, then I can appeal it.

I was like seriously? Why would I do that, I don't need to do any of that! So I told her I would just go switch to Tricare Standard and go to the birth center for all my care. So she ended up doing a urine HCG and a quantative HCG anyways, which is really all I needed

Sorry, just had to vent somewhere! I'm so sick of military health ins!

Blech, yeah and I was hoping to get an u/s out of it...I'm really disappointed now and I'm going to continue freaking out because there are like FIVE moms in my DDC expecting twins!

All of that is exactly why the girls and I are on TriCare Standard. I got really tired of the dog and pony show!

TriCare always sounds like a bit of a pain, but I know over here people who have it get all kind of 'extras' like 3D ultrasounds and private rooms at the hospital. Too bad my job doesn't feel like offering it to me.

Wow.. Gotta love government run health care.. I'm very familiar with how military hospitals work.. I know all the crazy steps you have to go through..

See if your OB can give you a referral. If they don't, go complain to Patient Affairs.. Throw a fit or get your DH involved if he has some rank to pull.. You may just get your referral and not pay..
