I was talking to my mom like usual on Saturday and she suddenly "confessed" to me that it took her and my dad 3 years to conceive my older sister. 3 years! And she also mentioned that they got to the point that they thought they'd never have kids, etc.

I just thought it was very odd that she'd only just mention this now, after it's taken me and DH 3 years with no explanation or medical conditions. Gee, thanks!

I guess I really am more medically like my mom than I ever thought! I'm not bitter or anything, I just wish I'd known sooner to expect a long long wait.

I really don't understand sometimes why parents fail to mention things like these. The closest thought would perhaps be that she may have felt telling would be discouraging. I'm not sure.

At least it wasn't like my mom who told me she miscarried a 5 month old little boy ... when I was 5 months pregnant.

I'll never understand parents. My mom just told me recently that I am not vaccinated against whopping cough because after 1 vaccine as a kid, I had such a horrible reaction to it, they decided it was in my best interest to just not be vaccinated against it. Gee thanks for telling me! Might have to be concerned when its time to vaccinate my kid ya know!

My Mom was the opposite--told me all the time how it only took one or two tries to get pregnant, never had a loss, morning sickness was only some mild passing nausea that went away if she ate a little toast, etc. Yeah, not exactly what I liked hearing.

Nice to know though that your Mom went through the same kind of thing.
