How long would it take for something I ate to upset the babies stomach? Say, if I ate something at dinner, would that upset him at the next feed or is it more likely to be the following day?

when teddy reacts, its usually 24 hours after i ingest the offending food. It starts with vomiting, and then 12 hours later with diarrhea. But he is SUPER dairy sensitive.
What's going on?

Jacob has started screaming after I feed him and arching his back like he's in pain. It doesn't last long and usually stops once he brings up wind. I was wondering if it's something I've eaten that is upsetting his tummy? It's only started in the last 48 hours or so (since my Mum has been with us and cooking all our meals).

he's only so little, maybe he just needs more time to build up his natural intestinal bacteria? maybe after a few more days he'll be used to your moms cooking. don't panic! its a good sign that it passes quickly i'd say....

could also be simple things like reflux, letdown being too slow or too fast. Wanting the other boob etc. Babies are funny

I thought with reflux they feel better when nursing because their tummies are filled? I don't know.. Oliver cried a lot when he was a newborn and after a couple months he got much better. He always wanted to be held upright. I think it was my letdown being fast and he had a lot of gas. Give it some time. His belly is brand new and getting use to having BM in there.

Mum cooks with a lot of garlic and onion, so maybe that is it. His poops don't appear any different - just like yellow mustard seed!
It's not overly bad and it tends to pass quickly... I'll give it a few more days!

probably just gas, you could try some infant simethicon (baby gas-x). (spelling?) It's not absorbed and just dissolves gas bubbles. Not sure on the age for probiotics but you can get those in capsule form and dissolve the powder in BM too or let the baby kinda suck it off your finger, but I think there's a min age on that not sure. Maybe 4wks? Not sure.

Sorry to butt in, Kirsty suffered the same thing, she was diagnosed with colic. The screaming is awful, high pitched? Search kellymom for colic to see if it sounds similar?
I was told BF babies don't get colic/reflux.... what a croc! She was 3wks old when it kicked in

Last night was horrible. Jacob screamed for hours and his little belly was rock hard - he was in so much pain. I almost took him to A+E but he finally calmed down. Did the same thing at 3.30am this morning, so it's been a sleepless night.
Not sure if it's something I ate that has upset his tummy or if it's colic/reflux setting in? I know he's only two weeks old, but he's been so easy up until last night.

colic was horrible in Brayden for nearly 6m! And he was BF'ed. I would take his little belly and "walk" my fingers over it from left to right then turn him on his belly on my legs and pat his back. That's what the pedi told me. I'd DEFINITELY try the infant gas drops! sounds a lot like gas pains! you can give them before and after feedings too.

At first when you noted that he settles once he's pass the gas/wind, I'm was thinking it may be gas but after the all night post, I think it could possibly be reflux or colic. I'm not sure how you tell which one it is but it's still going on today, call his pediatrician about it.
