So Matthew used to sleep holding a plastic shovel.

Well a few weeks ago, he found a little stuffed dog that my MIL bought for him 2 years ago when I was pregnant. Ever since then he seems to be growing more and more attached to "Puppy". It's really cute. He sleeps with him and cuddles him, took him to the grocery store and to Mother's Day Out.
But...I have no way of finding a backup! The dog has a little Christmasy looking scarf and I'm sure it was seasonal. MIL doesn't remember it or where she got it from (maybe when she sees it in a few days she'll remember). I've always heard you should have a backup in case the lovey gets lost. Especially with him taking it to Mother's Day Out, I don't want it to get lost.
I hunted around on ebay and I found another puppy, same size and maker, but it has different colored fur (brown instead of white) and a different scarf.
Do you think he will still see this backup as his lovey even though it's different? (I haven't gotten it in the mail yet) Should I just call it by the same name "Puppy" or call it by something else to differentiate them? I am probably overthinking this

I just don't have any experience with this stuff, but I've heard horror stories of loveys getting lost and the child being heartbroken!
