You know, that thread about first time motherhood and about it being easier or harder than you expect got me to thinking, no one tells you that your baby is going to be sick all the stinkin time in the first year! With Charlotte being in daycare she gets sick often and I swear it is like she is constantly on an antibiotic or benadryl or Tylenol with probiotics and the whole nine! And she is kind enough to share it with the whole family.
She just got over an ear infection, then went on to a stomach bug, then gave it to me on Thursday, the day before we were supposed to take her first trip to my dad's house, then she came down with a fever on Saturday and took down dh Saturday night, who is still at home sick and miserable!
I have never been so sick so much in one year in my adult life. I hope we stop getting sick soon. I swear every baby at day care has an icky runny nose.
Okay rant over.

I know! And this was new to me since I stay home with my kids but this is the first year Liam started school and because we're in and out of the school so much we have gotten just about everything! I think Lila especially has had more sick than well days in her short little life.

Day cares are giant petridishes! The first 2 years have been rough -- J.J is sick every 6-8 weeks for 1-2 weeks. Then I always catch whatever he gets. It's fun. *sarcasm*

I've been told you either get it at daycare or you get it when they start school, but one way or another you get it.
I just hate that she is always on meds. It seems like she spends at least 50% of her time on meds.
And, right on time, I'm feeling like I'm coming down with something. I guess it is my turn. We like to play round robin at my house! Although if both dh and I are sick at the same time that is going to SUCK! I'm already out of sick days at work and my vacation time is dwindling.
Sam,'are you telling me it's not over at a year??! I was hoping some magical switch would flip on her birthday.

That stinks! Oliver never got sick in his first year but had a minor cold shortly after turning one. Since I watch a few kids in my home they all have passed around several colds but nothing too bad. Oliver has had one ear infection in his life at 2 yrs old and one fever with a rash at two years old. We've been lucky!
Before Oliver I never got sick. It had been a good 6-8 years since I had a cold. This past 6 months I've had the stomach flu twice, a bad cold, and a few minor colds.

I am SO not looking forward to this! I know it's going to hit us hard when Curtis starts school. So far we've done pretty good with colds/flus etc. We've had some colds hit us, i think from Daddy.
Sick kids are just NOT fun, especially when they share it with you and you need to care for them when you are feeling awful!! All three kids and I had a HORRIBLE cold, it was just aweful.

Stephenie you are a trooper! When I feel sick all I want to do is curl up, I couldn't imagine having to take care of three sick kids!

Far from over! Between his first birthday and now, he has been sick at least once a month and out of day care for 1-3 days each month. He had HF&M on his birthday, hes had strep, he has had multiple colds, he had strep, recently had some infection that looked like strep and presented as strep but strep test was negative.
There is always pink eye to worry about, roseola, all those fun day care breeding ground diseases.
We are coming into the summer now so it should not be that bad -- up in NY -- October - April are the bad sick kid months.

I'm sorry, I hope baby and your DH feel better soon.
I was told about the illnesses upon starting school. Amara went cold free for the first 18 months of her life and when she started school, she was in one week and out sick the next. She's been sick twice and has had a runny nose a few times though it had no other effect on her. But even though I was warned, it was and still is hard to take in.

Bleh... Now I'm showing the same symptoms dh had with his flu. It was weird because the first two weeks it was just a sore throat, drainage, a cough, a little fatigue, and he lost his voice. Then the third week the classic flu symptoms kicked into high gear. I'm hoping he actually had two different sicknesses and I just have the first one, but I doubt that is the case. Weeeeeeeeee this is fun!
I'm jealous of those of you who didn't have sick babies in the first year.
