About leaving a crawling/walking baby in a baby proofed room by him/herself playing with toys for a couple of minutes while you do something like get a bowl of cereal (to eat in the same room as baby) or go to the restroom (you in another room, no visual but within earshot). This isn't meant to turn into a debate or anything. Dh and I have differing viewpoints on this so I'm feeling out what others think.

I would feel fine doing that, since the room is baby proofed. I have and will do it. I have other kids and other things that need to be attended too so I always have a "safe" place for my youngest so I can quick do something.

I've done it, but I have a more laid back kid that I know won't try jumping off the couch or something. lol. Obviously the personality of your child has a lot to do with this. I don't think I've left him for minutes, though, maybe like 30 seconds to a minute while I run upstairs to grab a basket of laundry or something. I'm sure this will change drastically once I have another baby, though! heh.

I do it all the time. Literally just for a minute though. Our living room is completely baby proofed. We only have one bathroom up on the top floor, so I will leave him for a minute or two to go use the toilet or maybe to go bring up a load of laundry to fold (laundry room is in the basement).

I have to do it all the time. But I always have to just leave Baylen cause Cambria wont let me out of her site! LoL. There's a half bath right in the main room so I leave that door open but If I have to grab something up stairs I run up really fast.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Well, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one! Dh is of the school of thought that we are to never have Charlotte leave our sights. I didn't think it does any harm for just a moment or two.

As long as it's baby proofed I really don't see the harm. I have to do it all the time because I have to deal with Chris and his needs often and it's just too hard to pick Alissa up every time I need go out of the room for 5 seconds.

Everything is pretty much babyproof in the rooms she can get to...but there are still things that could potentially hurt her. If she goes into her room to play with her books, we turn the monitor on so we can hear and check on her like every other minute since she does like to go through her paci and lotion tubs.

I do it all the time. I know she's pretty safe in the family room so if I have to leave the room for a few minutes to go to the bathroom, do laundry, or tend to one of the boys I have no problem doing it. Taking her with me would mean either not being able to do what I need to do because I'm holding her or putting her down to run around in a room where she could get hurt and have access to the stairs. Its much safer to leave her in the family room with the toys and the gates!
