Ok so Julien discovered his thumb this week and he seems to think it's the best thing ever. He's liked to suck on his fingers since birth but he would take the paci when we offered it to him, but he can't seem to keep it in his mouth very long. Now that he found his thumb, it's always in his mouth. He still likes the paci when I'm rocking him to sleep though.
I'm not sure what to do about it. It seems to comfort him so part of me doesn't want to take that away from him, but I'm scared he'll have a hard time giving it up when he's older. I feel the paci would be an easier habit to break.
Did any of you BTDT have a thumb sucker? Did you do something about it or did you wait until they were older to break the habit?
Amara started sucking on her fingers and then moved on to her thumb when she was about 3 months old. I just left her and she stopped sucking it when she got her front teeth. I was worried at first and tried her with the paci but she never took to any so I just decided to let her be. She didn't suck hers all the time though, ony when she was sleepy.
Charlotte loves her thumb. I never tried to stop her. She also mainly sucks it when she's tired. But she sucks it so much it gets a little chapped! I'm going to let her continue for a while anyway. If it becomes a problem I might use some of that bitter tasting nail polish made for breaking the habit.

Thank you GraysMama for my beautiful siggy!
I have a thumb-sucker. He's almost 9.....LOL I was worried when he lost his front teeth but they came in straight. I figured that he will stop sucking it when he's ready.
My 5 year old also sucked his thumb off and on when he was a baby but it didn't become a habit.
