After the amnio, I spent a restless night trying to figure out what would happen.. The amnio came back with full lung maturity, and my nurse came in at 9am to ask me if I'd had breakfast. I said, "No?" and she said, "Good! don't! we're starting the induction."

I took a shower, popped into the bed for the IV. The contractions started pretty slowly at first, I wasn't even feeling them. The IV began at 10am The doctor had said if my water hadn't broken by 5, they'd stop the pitocin, and give me an overnight medication that would help the induction become easier the next day, and restart on Wednesday. I did not want any parts of that. Thankfully.. the nurse who examined me 'accidentally' broke my water, and that's when things got... seriously painful. (Side funny: While examining me, she looked down at me and informed me that I would be feeling "A pretty significant amount of pressure." My unconscious, immediate response of, "No ######." Made everyone giggle a bit.) I was having to breathe pretty hard throught the contractions after that, but I perservered until 7cm and then said, "ANESTHESIOLOGIST *NOW* KTHXBAI!" Epidurals are a miracle of modern science.

That was 5pm? 6pm? I forget. I remember at one point the @#()$ ()@#))#($#($%*(%* automatic blood pressure cuff started taking my blood pressure while I was in the midst of a fairly evil contraction, and I ripped it off and chucked it across the room, or rather, I had fantasies of chucking it across the room, I imagine it slid harmlessly down beside the bed.

8:15.. something.. felt different. I wasn't feeling any pain, thank God.. just something felt different. I informed my nurse that she had "better get the doctor". She did a quick exam, sent the student nurse for the doctor, and we pushed... 3 times. Brianna Claire was born 8:31pm on April 8, 2008. I'm fine, and my "tiny little baby" who was growing "too slowly"...

Was 6 lbs, 3oz, at three weeks early. If she'd gone to 40 weeks..and was still ok, she would have been pretty close to normal. The only issue that was serious enough to cause the induction was her amniotic fluid was very, very low. So low, in fact, that she would probably have been having serious issues if the pregnancy had continued into the following week.

..Something *WAS* wrong.. I feel slightly less crazy, slightly vindicated (ok more than slightly).. and like less of a hypochondriac.

She's SHORT! 17 3/4 inches. How did that happen? :-D

So we're home, we're happy, and more pictures, baby gurglings, happiness, etc. to come.

I am constantly amazed by Bree, and she's less than 3 days old. She squeaks when she hiccups.

I feel like a superhero.

*AND*.. I'm wearing my pre-pregnancy pants.
thank you claire1979. for my amazing siggie!
