It all started the morning of April 17th, I started to lose my mucous plug but I was concerned since I had a low lying placenta so I went in. Thats when the contractions started 5 mins apart, they weren't bad enough and I wasn't uncomfortable so they checked me I was 1.5 cm and 70% effaced. My midwife sent me walking and said we should see you soon your in early labor. Greg, my mom and I went to the mall just down the street and walked for a good 3 hours. I thought I should go home and shower and see what happened from there. We went home and showered and started to walk around the neighborhood for another hour with my mom and gregs mom. Nothing was changing in my contractions and I was still bleeding so I called labor and delivery and they asked me to come down but I wasn't convinced, must have been the shock of it all so we laid down to watch the movie Hairspray we got into 5 mins of the movie when I got this really hard contraction and about 30 sec later I felt this gush I jumped up and ran to the bathroom and sure enough my water broke. I cried and said I wasn't ready but I knew I could do it!! It was the weirdest feeling I have ever felt and into the car we went to labor and delivery. I can't believe how strong my contractions got once my water broke. I got settled into my room LDR3 and our nurse Sam checked us all in, at around 7pm My midwife came to check me and I was dilated to 2.5 and 80% effaced. I was handeling the contractions pretty well since I have a low tolerance for pain. I found my focal point and was breathing through each contraction. A couple hours passed, and finally at around 11pm I was 4 cm and allowed to get an epidural although the anethologist was in another patients room and wouldn't be available for awhile so I got some nubien (sp?) I loved it. then they came to give me my epi. I was exhausted so I thought I would take a nap and try to relax to progress but once the epi kicked in my contractions started to slow down, so they started pitocin. Then I started to notice my epidural didn't take below my hips. It only worked in my belly and my right leg. I couldn't feel the contractions in my belly but I could feel all the pressure from him coming down. I look back on it and was really happy I got to feel everything from him coming out. and finally after 40-45 mins of pushing at 3:54am Friday April 18th, 2008 Austin Michael was born. 7.7 lbs 19.5 in long.
Wow! We do have similar birth stories! I was so happy to hear that your water had broke - I had Celeste check on you for me when I was in the hospital. I'm so happy for you and congratulations. Austin is just adorable!!
