Let me start off by saying this was an amazing experience for me. Being an RN in the nursery at the hospital I delivered at was a huge bonus. I was treated like an absolute queen! I went for my 4:00pm induction and my doctor had ordered an ultrasound to check the fetal weight because I was measuring so big before he would start the induction. I went up to the mother-baby unit before I went to L/D to say goodbye to everyone and tell them I would see them after the baby was born. I hadn't barely had any contractions all day. When I got to L/D, they hooked me up to the monitors. I started to feel contractions almost right away. They were showing up every 1-2 minutes. The lady came to do my u/s about 5:30pm. The estimated fetal weight was 8lbs 1oz. I continued to contract consitantly. My doctor came in to place the Cytotec around 7pm but when he saw how much I was contracting, he said he couldn't give it to me. So, he checked me and I was 2cm. I was closed the day before in the office. So, he said you are in labor and he broke my water and let me go on my own. From 7-11, I only dilated to 3cm so he decided to start Pitocin. I got my epidural at that time...it was amazing, I couldn't feel a thing. At 3am, I was 6cm. Then, with the next few contractions, I started to feel pressure and the baby's heart rate dipped with each contraction indicating that the head was decending into the pelvis. At 3:15am I was completely dilated and they called my doctor in. He came in and got ready. I pushed 3 times and the baby was born. My doctor didn't announce what the sex was, he just laid the baby on my tummy. All the sudden, we caught a glimpse of those little girl parts and everyone screamed and cried with excitement! I was and still am so amazed that I have a little girl. I am absolutely in love. It was the most amazing experience to be surprised. I was able to nurse her right away and she latched on like a champ. Then she got her bath and we headed up to the mother-baby unit around 5:15am. When, I got there, the nurses had wrapped my door in pink wrapping paper and put a big bow on it like a present. Her little crib was decorated with pink ribbons. Here are some pics....
