okay ladies, as short as this may be its brent jr's birth story. i went to my checkup june 3 knowing that i would be being induced before the end of that week. i went in probably half way effaced and not dialated. my doc told me to come back right after midnight so that way we could get things going and have us an early baby. brent and i got there and registered and finally got settled in our labor and delivery room around 1 a.m. and at the same time had the cytotech inserted to soften my cervix. around 5 i was having some pretty stong contractions already and had dialated to 2 cm. my doc arrived to check me at 9:45 and i had dialated to 4 cm, and having steady contrax that were about 4 min apart. he told me whenever i was ready for my epidural it was okay with him. i had just received a shot of nubain that didnt work and we soon found out that it was because i was already well into active labor. about an hour later i asked for my epidural which took a while to get because they wanted to finish pushing my iv fluids in before getting it. i guess the epi guy came around 11:45 and did the epidural. can i tell you that it was freakin nice to have contrax, see them on the monitor and not feel them!! before i had the epi i was having contrax 2 min apart and had dialated to 6 by then. about 30 min after getting my epi i started feeling what i thought was pressure from brent jr moving down. yeah right. i soon found out that he was down, and soon to be out! i called the nurse who checked me and said i was fully dialated, but the two docs that were there were in the process of a c section so they needed for me to wait. the nurse came back and checked me again and i was steadily pushing because the pain was horrible and he was there. she told me the situation but realized that i couldn't wait so she started getting the rest of the team together. before 5 min was up and before they could get all the equipment in and two pushes later brent jr was out and screamin! poor thing came out so fast they didn't have time to stop him to suction him out or anything. the placenta came right out right after he did. so the two nurses that i had delivered him and were extremely surprised at how fast he came out. he was so quick to come out that i tore very badly, almost from end to end. so, the doc came about an hour later to stitch me and nick named the baby speedy because he couldn't wait any longer to see us!!!
