Near the end of my pg my mom, Dh & myself had a poll going of when I was going to deliver. My mom said it was going to be May 26th (needless to say, she lost), DH said I would go into labor on June 1st 7 deliver on the 2nd (almost right), I felt like she would be late on the 14th (or on the 9th-my EDD-if it were going to be a scheduled c-section.
Well, I worked my normal weekend and got off Sunday morning. I napped and the DH & I were putting some finishing touches on the nursery (like putting up her name on the wall & some other wall hangings). DH kept a close eye on me all day, because remember he said I was going to go into labor on Sunday. I assured him that NOTHING was going to happen, because I was having NO signs of anything. Monday morning we woke up at about 7:30am, talked, ate a light breakfast, I got on JM to update about my DDB, then sat int the floor of the nursery going through boxes of stuff to be discarded. By this time it's after 10am and DH has to be at work at 12pm. at about 10:45am, he asked me to trim up his hairline with his clippers. Remember I said I was sitting in the floor of the nursery....? Well, I couldn't get up! Even with DH's help, I had a HARD time getting up. My legs were so stiff, my belly being so big I just was in a really awkward position. Well, it took us a few minutes to get me up. LOL! I felt like an old woman! After getting up, I had to pee (of course everytime I stood up I had to pee), so I went to the bathroom & was at the sink washing my hands when it happened! It was exactly 10:50am, I felt a SQUIRT!! My first thought was, "I know I didn't just pee on myself!?" Then the SQUIRT trickled down my leg! Uh, oh! I know what that means...my water just broke! i had DH bring me a Amnioswab that I brought home from work (we use these to test for rupture of membranes). I touched the swab to my leg and it instantly turned dark blue=positive results! OMG, DH was right. I remained calm and told DH to call my doc (who just happened to be on-call from 5pm Sunday until 1pm Monday, but didn't return our call ), call my mom & dad (my dad just called the night before for the address to the hospital so he could mapquest it for when he needed to come here in a hurry for the delivery), call his mom, and get our bags (he just packed his the day before). I immediately jump in the shower, as the flood gates continued to flow! I called the unit where I work to tell them to tell my doc that I was ruptured and on my way (I found out then my doc was in surgery-reason she didn't return our call). Can you believe that I ONLY had one sanitary pad in the whole house?! I soaked that one as soon as I put it on. So, I went to the nursery & opened a pack of diapers and put a NB diaper in my pants! We had to go to the post office to mail DH's car payment. We arrived at the hossy about 12:30pm & they took me straight in & let DH register me (so I wouldn't have to sit in the lobby with soaking wet pants on). My doc was waiting for me when I got there. They hooked me up to the monitor, I was contracting every 3-5 mins without feeling anything, she checked my cervix, I was dilated 2/50%/-2, I went to have an ultrasound to get an estimated fetal weight. She was estimated to be 8lbs 5oz., so the green light was given for a vaginal delivery. My doc called and got me a room on labor & delivery, she wheeled me down there & started my IV, they started the high dose pitocin, & I also had to have an amnioinfusion (because there was light meconium in my fluid by this point) all at about 3:00pm! I love my doc. She's not only my doc, but my friend.
Anyway, I was checked again & I was 3/75%/-1...progress...yay! I began to feel pressure with contractions, but still no "pain." At 6:00pm, the contractions were coming every 2-3 mins lasting a minute & I was FEELING them. My mom was already there then my Dad came right when the pain was REAL! It felt nice having him there (my parents are divorced & our relationship has been strained until maybe a couple of years ago). Anyway, I even began to cry with the contractions. I tried to hold out for the epidural as long as I could, but I thought I was going to DIE! I got my epidural at 6:50pm & the anesthesiologist is one of our best...he'll numb you up REAL GOOD! I told him I would kiss him if I didn't think it would anger my DH! LOL! After that I just had to change positions every hour, because the baby was facing "sunny-side up" & they wanted her to rotate. By 11:20pm, I was 7/100%/-1 & I was thinking, "Wow, I'm really about to have a baby!" At midnight, I was 9.5/100%/0! My doc decided to go take a nap (since she'd been on-call since Sunday) & recheck me in 2 hours. At 2:30am, I was still the same! Oh, no! So after another 2 hours at 4:30am, we made the decision to have a c-section. We were afraid that she would actually be too big and her head would not rotate or her head would rotate and she would get stuck during pushing. There was a bit of a delay going back to surgery, because another doc was trying to lie & say his patient had a non-reassuring tracing & needed to go before me. We went back to surgery at 5:27am and Little Miss Laila Symone made her grande entrance at 5:46am on Tuesday June 3, 2008 (so Daddy was just a little incorrect)! The funny part was right when my doc reached in the incision to get her head out, Laila stuck her hand out and grabbed the doc's hand! I saw it, because they had a mirror placed so DH & I could watch it (at our request). It was soo funny. I wish we were able to get a pic of it.
Laila weighed 8lbs 15oz. 20 3/4 inches long, Apgar scores were 9 & 9! She looks like both DH & me, but more like me in my baby pic.
Thanks to those of you who made it to the end of my montage! ***Also, I'd like to thank Kacie for updating everyone on my labor while my DDB was recovering from her own c-section & to Jess for all her support as a DDB!***
My mom supported me through getting the epidural, because DH wanted to watch!
DH took this pic as he waited outside the OR suite
May be its hormones, but am an emotional wreck right now after reading your birth story...and the pic of you and your mom; makes me wish for a mom who could hold me and be there when delivery. You however look like her baby in that picture!! I love all baby's pics, Laila came in very strong!
