Monday June 16th, I had an ultrasound with my maternal fetal medicine doctor to check the baby's size per my OB. I was just over 39 wks. The baby showed to be about 7lbs 4oz and my fluids were looking a bit low. They ran a NST and that was great. The doc called my OB and advised that I shouldn't get much longer. So at my appt with the OB, the next day, it was decided that I would be induced the following day, Wednesday June 18th. I was already 3cm dilated and 75% effaced. They made an appt for me at 6:30 am.

I was put on pitocin when I got there. Then about an hour and half later I received my epidural. The epidural made my blood pressure drop so they had to bring that back up with meds. Unfortunately this interrupted my contractions so they had to build those back up. The epidural also ended up making me too numb to feel when it came time to push. They reduced the epidural to the lowest dosage and it still didn't help. So then they totally cut it off. I slowly began to get feeling again, but it was still really hard to feel when to push. The nurse had had me do some practice pushes and then wanted to let the baby drop down a bit on his own. However the doc disagreed and wanted me to keep pushing. In all I think I pushed for an hour and a half. Ryan was born at 4:12. That moment is one I will never forget. After having had 3 miscarriages, to hear Ryan's cry - it was one the best things I've ever heard. I couldn't help crying and dh grabbed my hand and he had tears in his eyes too.

They'd done an episiotomy and I ended up with 3rd degree tearing. So I've been a bit sore. But it seems that's getting better little by little. I'd definitely do it all again just to hear this little guy's cry!

Here are a couple of pictures from when he was born.
