I am so happy to share Maddy's birth story! I was scheduled to be induced on Thursday, 8/28 at 41 weeks. At Monday's appointment I showed no signs of progress, and my cervix was high and closed. So, on Wednesday 8/27, I was to go in for a cervical ripening to prep for Thursday. Around 6:00 Wed. morning, I got up to go pee and my water had broken. It wasn't a lot, so I wasn't sure.
At the 8:00 ripening appointment, I told the nurse that my water may have broken. They hooked me up to a NST and it turned out I was having contractions, but couldn't feel them. Then my doctor came in and examined me and sure enough, my water had broken and I was 2cm dialated and 80% effaced. Baby was still high.
We got admitted around noon and I was started on pitocin. Contractions started getting stronger and around 2:00 I was 3 cm dialated. I got the epidural around 3:30.
The next time my doctor checked me, around 6:45, I was 7cm dialated and the contractions were very close together, but the baby was still very high and showing no signs of progressing for a vaginal birth. My doctor started discussing the option of a c-section. We were disappointed, but didn't give up hope just yet. Around 8:00 she checked again and the baby had dropped! I started pushing at 9:15pm. It was unreal. I could feel the contractions, and I was not expecting that!
Madelyn was born at 10:38pm and placed right on my belly. It was so wonderful. My doctor did have to cut me, and I also had a big tear right by my cervix. Since she had to repair that and it was hard to see, I had to be moved to the OR right away. Thank goodness that only took about 35 minutes.
I loved my hospital stay. We were treated so well, but it's great to be home. Recovery from an episiotomy is not fun, but getting through it.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this! I posted pictures of Maddy in the regular thread.
