We registered Josiah for preschool yesterday! He will be going T/Th 9am-noon starting in September. They had an open house last night. I could tell Josiah was nervous about going, because he was kind of acting out in the car. But he LOVED the classrooms! I feel really good about not having started him sooner (many of his friends were in school this year), I just knew he wasn't quite ready. But he is going to thrive next fall... he is so excited to go, and I feel really good about the school we have chosen to send him to! There will be a max of 15 in his class with two teachers, but they said the class he will be in usually only ends up with 12 kids because they try to keep the 1st year preschool classes on the smaller end. Where has the time gone? I just can't believe he's starting school in the fall! It makes me want to really cherish these next few months with him, before it all changes. Forever.

I know exactly how you feel, Sarah! I can't believe that our little ones are going to school in the fall, and they won't stop going off to school until they're grown. But they'll be better off with the added academics and socialization preschool can give them. SO glad that Josiah loved the classroom, that has to make you feel good!

What made you decide on 2 days/week? I've been struggling with how many days/week to send Lucy and Leigh, in fact I have the application in front of me right now and can't decide how many days to circle, lol. I'll probably do 3 days/week, so kindergarten won't be such a shock. But then, they'll be doing summer school beforehand at the same preschool, at 2 days/week so they will have the summer to adjust.

Yay for preschool!!!

I was just thinking about that this morning, because I had to stay home to see Sean off to school today. While we were waiting for his bus, Tyler said he wants to ride a bus and go to preschool! I told him that he will go to preschool next year since he's using the potty now. Then I got to thinking that I need to do some research and see where to send him!

Lisa, I had the option of T/Th or M/W/F 9-noon. It was a no brainer for us... I work T/Th mornings 9:30-11:30, so by having him go those two days, I eliminate my need for childcare! Plus, he has been taking Music Together on Wednesday mornings and LOVES his teacher, so I really wanted him to be able to continue with that. The year after, we will have the option of a preschool 4's and 5's class, or a pre-k class. Both have identical curriculums and prepare the kids equally well for kindergarten. The difference is that the preschool class is for the more kinisthetic learners who do best with hands on activities and lots of movement. The pre-K does more sit-down table work. At the end of his first year of preschool, the director will meet with us and recommend which class she thinks would be best for him. I already know he'll be with the kinisthetic learners The second year, we'll have the option of 2, 3 or 5 days a week. I'm planning on continuing with just two days a week. I want as much time with him at home as possible before he is gone on a daily basis! Good luck making your decision, Lisa!

My nephew just stated Monday at a preschool he was on the waiting list for. He is the same age as Thea and is really enjoying it so far. It worked out well for them; he probably wouldn't have been ready if they would have tried to start him this past fall.
While we won't be sending Thea to a preschool, we are considering starting Classical Conversations in the fall, which is a supplementary curriculum for homeschooling families; science, music, art, Bible, math, language and Latin. It is one day a week for three hours and the parents stay on site.
