I don't have a fun story, but when dh was deployed I wanted to get his name tattooed on my back. I went to this 1 place that I had gotten referrals from people. I got there and showed the guys what I wanted with dh's name and the guy said "You're #%*$ stupid" He said if my dh was in the navy and deployed he was over there cheating on me right now and I wanted to get his name tattooed on my body. I was pissed so I left and found another place that did and it turned out better than what the other guy had drawn. That guy really ticked me off and I make sure to tell everyone not to go there if they want to get inked.

What an #####. I would have definitely ######ed at the owner. Who the hell does he think he is?

Anyway, I have 2 tattoos, 1 of them is matching with my DF, we went in and got it done at the same time. The guy who was doing them kept saying stuff about couples having their SO's name on them, not lasting, it's a bad omen, whatever. We got matching dragonflies, not names. So, no biggie. Me and Jess are fine, but it ticked me off. It was like he was trying to scare Jesse out of getting it done.

My first one is on my wrist and when I went in the artist gave me this big speech, that I can appreciate, about not getting tattooed on your arms at a young age, I was 17. He said he wasn't going to do it and I cried a little. Haha, oh well. I talked him into doing it for me by reasoning that I'd had it planned for a long time and waited to make sure I still wanted it. I gave him a big tip for dealing with me.

i have 4 now.
the first was a rose on my ankle, the second is my girls names and birthdates around my other ankle like a bracelet, the 3rs is a breast cancer ribbon on my shoulder honorong my mom, and my latest is one with mine & hubby's names & our wedding date with a tribal looking heart around it. I always complained about people putting their SO's names on them, but i figure after being married 10 years, i am pretty safe!!

My first was two years ago this coming May, it's a ladybug in btween two flowers (almost in the shape of a heart). The guy was a #####hole, and the owner who was doing my sisters at the time even knocked $40 off because of it, and then he was fired a few weeks later. The second, my "Rebel Rose", the guy was great who did my tat, complimented my choice and even asked if he could do a little freelancing with color around it to make it "pop", I told him yes and now I'm glad I did. It turned out great...but it did cost more than originally priced somewhere else....but well worth it. Now I just need to go get the name/date/lyrics to finish it (hopefully soon).

SO & the kids went in with me and the kids kept peeking around the corner, wanting to know if it hurt. Then the guy covered it with clear wrap and taped on, so the kids thought mama being "saran wrapped" was funny. The tattoo artist heard Makayla telling her daddy she wanted a tattoo of a heart, so he called her to the door and told her she was next.....her eyes got so big and she saw the needles and paint and was like "NOOOOOOOOOO WAY MISTER, I'm too YOUNG!"

i got my one and only tattoo 1 1/2 years ago when I turned twenty. I got it when I moved into my first apartment with my college rommie and I got it from a guy who is now married to a friend of mine so I got a huge discount. It's a pirate ship with a verse from my favorite poem "I don't want to stand with the setting sun and hate myself for the things I've done." I'm going to school for creative writing and media and it was really a reminder to myself to stick to my guns when I get out there in the professional world. I got into both because I love the art forms and I didn't want to be swayed by what was popular and it was kind of my gift to myself for getting out on my own and being able to successfully earn my own rent and pay my own way. It is half my back and it took three sittings. I can't wait to be able to afford my next one!

Aww great stories everyone!!
My first tattoo I got when I was 19 and it was more just because I could afford it and wanted one. It's an orange daisy (favourite color and flower) with a tribal design going verticle behind it in my upper middle back. Im not happy with how it looks now and think I should have waited and gone somewhere else.
The second one I got last June in honor of my Daughter. It's an angel crouched holding a pink heart with a ribbon that has her name and date of birth. The original had blonde hair and was holding a dove. But I wanted mine to have brown hair because thats Angelynn's hair color and she's holding a heart. Mommy's heart
Here's my tatty just after she finished. I will be adding on to it. I would like my whole shoulder to be covered!

I have a very small but noticeable scar on my upper left inside arm. It's from having shingles in college--I wonder if I could cover it up with a tattoo, or if the fact that it's already scar tissue would make it hard.

...by that I mean if the ink maybe won't stick to skin that's already scarred, since tattoos are themselves a type of scar, i think....
