I am trying to estimate some dates and I have a question.

usually how long after stimming do you take the trigger shot?

the only thing I know as of now is that I maybe stimming for 10-12 days.

Thanks

Hey Jessy,
Everyone is diffrent but the norm is stims for 10-12 days. As you get closer to triggering your doctor will probably have you going in everyday or every other day. Once you're ready they will tell you to trigger that same night at a specific time and then exactly 36 hours later they will do the egg retrival. I hope this answers your question. When do you estimate you'll be starting your stims?

My doctors say 7-10 days of stimming. Of course every *cycle* is different... so far in my three cycles, I stimmed the first time for 9 days, the second time for 8 days, and this third time it was 10 days (though I didn't actually use stims the last two days, was coasting). Throws all my planning out the window.

But I'd say estimating 10 days would be a fair start.

Thanks ladies...

I am trying to figure out like a trigger date and retrieval date etc.

I have to go in on Dec. 29 for an u/s If my cyst is down or not there then I can stop BCP and get AF then on day 2 of AF I get to start my Stimming...So I am hoping & calculating:

If I stop BCP by 12.29.08 then I pray that I get AF on 1/2/09

So if I start AF by 1/2 - then I would start stimms on 1/3 + 10 days = 1/13/09

1/13/09 If I trigger on that date then I would do the retrievial by 1/15 & transfer on 1/18

LoL all I have to see is if all these numbers work

But atleast I should have some type of estimate! YaY!!!!!!! Please lord I hope that cyst goes AWAY!!!!!!!

Seriously, planning out all my dates was what kept me sane in those months leading up to my cycle! I can't wait to watch you go through yours!

Jessy~ Are you doing a 3 day transfer? If so, did the doctor say why?

Yes, my IVF nurse told me I would have a day 3 transfer, she just told me that non of the RE's in the practice really never do a day 5 trans. very rarely, she said that they have seen better results with day 3 transfers and that they have one of the highest preg. rates in South Florida...so I didnt question it I am guessing that is what the norm is....

Did your RE tell you something different?

Mine does 3 or 5 day with assisted hatching in either case - they said they wait to see how the embryos are doing, and if they look really good they'll let them get to the blastocyst phase and transfer them on day 5. I guess every dr is different and just like patients, they all have their preferences.

We did three day FET transfers (or the clinic I used did). I asked about five day in hopes of a bigger stronger chance and my doctor told me their experience had been the smaller/younger transplants seemed to survive and implant more frequently with fewer defects. I do think some of the 'younger' patients had five day transfers but I was among the oldest and had already lost babies. FYI, our transfers were three to four cells at transfer so technically I think they were just one day old with a 20 hour divide time. They were thawed the day before my procedure in each event.

I think whether 3-day or 5-day has a higher success rate is highly dependent on the clinic. I'm pretty sure they each have their own methods, and every clinic kind of figures out what works best for them. You can look at their stats (or ask to see them), talk to your doctor about why they do what they do... but just because one clinic has great success doing it one way doesn't mean your clinic will if they try the same thing! I try - emphasis on *try* - to place my faith in my clinic, that they know what their doing.

Natalie. I also found (in my admittedly limited internet research on this topic) that 5-day transfers require a significant amount more training and technology on the lab's part. So some labs just haven't gotten there yet. If a clinic hasn't gotten enough experience doing blast transfers or just doesn't have the capabilities to fully support it yet (lab techs, equipment, storage, etc), I'd think the 3-day transfer would be a much better option because that's what they know and have had success with in the past.

I am hoping for a day 5 transfer myself since our clinic does both, but will defer to my RE for his recommendation when it comes time. He said that a lot depends on the embryos themselves - how many you have, how well they're growing, etc - as well as the patient's personal preferences. If you only have 2 embryos on day 3 and want to transfer 2, some prefer to get them back in as early as possible and some prefer to take their chances and wait 2 more days for that added confidence. Right now I think I'd take my chances and hope for the best with a 5 day transfer, but one thing I've learned from this TTC journey is that until I'm actually in a particular situation I just can't predict what the right decision for us will be at that time.
