My husband and I have just started seeing a fertility doctor. Our issue is my husband's sperm count. He had cancer as a child and underwent years or radiation and chemo. They said the average male's count is somewhere around 40 million. His is 20,000. I have gone for a few internal ultrasounds and a sonohistograph to check my uterus. So far everything on my end seems to be ok. Since my husband's count is so low, we are going to skip over IUI since they need a count of at least 2 million after a wash and go straight to IVF. He said the earliest we're looking at to start is September. The doctor said I have to do another check of the uterus when my next period starts (which I'm not sure when it will be since I am quite irregular) then they will put me on birth control and do a trial transfer. I don't have a ton of questions yet, but I'm sure I will as the process goes along. How many of you have gone through IVF? How long do you have to be on meds until the actual implantation? Any idea what the chance of multiples is?

Hello Katie!

I am Angie (33) and we have been ttc our first since August 2009. We just did part of our first IVF at the end of June beginning of July. I say part b/c I went through bcp, shots, and the egg retrieval. I was not able to complete the cycle with a transfer b/c my estrogen shot up over 5000 and they were concerned that I would have OHSS; ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Soooooo.......after AF arrives, after taking about a month off, we will be doing a frozen transfer!!!! I am getting excited, but I realize that it will be quite a while until we can get started. We may be close together in our cycles!!! I like having cycle buddies!!! Check out our July, August, Sept IVF. We have lots of lovely ladies there that have been going through what you are about to go through. It might help with questions you may have. Feel free to ask.........most of us this has been our first and we are all learning as we go!

Oh, we, are in the unexplained category. I don't ovulate regularly, but I do ovulate with meds. DH has had wonderful reports. We did two IUI's and then I wanted a more aggressive approach, so full steam ahead to IVF we went.

My name is Tiana and I am actually waiting to start my IVF as well. I'm waiting to see if I get accepted into a free IVF trial in NYC will find out mid-August, but if I do not get accepted then I will be starting my IVF treatment with my local fertility specialist in September. I don't have any answers to your questions I'm pretty much in the same boat as you except I'm the one who has the fertility issue, just wanted to welcome you and wish you good luck and blessings on your journey. The ladies on this board are very knowledgeable about this entire process so if you ever have any more questions this would definitely be the place to ask.

Hi Katie-
I'm new too! We tried IUI once and canceled it the other 2 times because hubby sperm was too few. We are just starting bcp, metaformin, & antibiotics. Retrieval planned for the 1st week of Sept.... Wishing you best of luck!!
