Kayakr - good luck tomorrow!

Aimee - that is odd - I'm sure part of my prescription was covered, but I would have gone with OTC prenatals, and used the baby aspirin I had at home I had known when they were placing the order! Not that it saved us too much.

Update: I guess I get daily updates from the fertility center. 22 embryos made it to the 6-8 cell stage. I will be freezing btw - they planned on doing it with the PGD - but said they would have done it with how many eggs were retrieved anyway - they never said I was hyperstimmed - but I know I was. So - I'm hoping to do my frozen cycle next month.

Hello Ladies!

I would love to join your group! I had 3 blastocysts transferred about 5 hours ago!

The transfer was a breeze compared to the harvest, which I am still mighty sore from. I suspect I am hyper-stimulated, I mean, it can't hurt like this for everyone, can it? I am taking Vicodin 7.5/500 and it still hurts through the Vicodin. The doctor suggested doubling up. I'm sure enjoying the Valium from my transfer today, since together with the Vicodin I am pain free for the first time in 5 days. Wish I could have another Valium tomorrow, this pain free thing is nice! :^)

I am 39, husband is, ahem, 30. What can I say, get em young and raise em right. Here's our IVF story in a nutshell:

A sonogram during one of my early appointments told us that I have 3 follicles on the left side and 5 on the right. I was stimulated with both Bravelle and MenoPure, 3 and 2 vials daily. After 5 days of stimulation the doctor decided to let it go another 2 days to see if 4 of the smaller follicles would produce an egg, even though that risked the 18mm follicle becoming overly mature. The sonogram now showed 3 follicles on the left and FOURTEEN on the right! I was harvested on Wednesday of last week, and we got 16 eggs, out of which 10 fertilized. Personally I wonder if we lost the 4 eggs that were still too immature plus the 2 most mature ones to being "overly mature", but who knows really.

Due to my age we decided to do PGD testing, and boy are we glad we did. 9 zygotes were biopsied and 1 of them had Downs, and all but 3 chromosomal abnormalities. $4500 well spent! Imagine going through all this just to get a non-viable pregnancy. My heart breaks just thinking about the possibility.

I was overjoyed this morning to see pictures of our 3 little blastocysts! 2 girls and a boy! We decided to go ahead an put them all in! So, I have 3 little blastocysts in my tummy now that are hopefully snuggling in for the ride right now!! Is it weird if I want to sing them a good night song?

Sleep well my beautiful blastocysts. Mommy and daddy love you.

Welcome Paula! I AM hyperstimmed! I had my retrieval on Friday - and I'm bloated, i feel ligament pain, and I wasn't given vicodin - just tylenol 3. I took one of my hubby's norco yesterday - and that was the first thing that made the pain go away... but, I was loopy on it. I think they hyperstimmed me because they wanted lots of eggs, because I have a balanced translocation and need PGD. I had 47 eggs, out of 47 38 were mature, out of 38 26 fertilized, and out of 26 so far 22 are where they want them to be. I'll get another report today

Good luck to you! Stick baby(ies) stick!

Hi Paula!
Wow what an exciting story you have. You type pretty good on Valium and Vicodin. I am totally impressed. I too have a younger DH. He pursued me though….what can I say??? Lol

I sure hope those beautiful blastocysts snuggle in tight. We need some BFP on here so we can all be inspired to keep this up.

I am 42 and we opted to use a donor instead of the PGD testing. They two pretty much cost about the same and we figure we’d still get better quality eggs from a 20 some year old than from me. I am a little sad we aren’t using my eggs but we just want the best possible chance for this IVF to work and using young donor eggs is the answer for us. Hopefully a younger person will produce more eggs too so we have some snow babies. Can I ask how you guys decided to go PGD testing vs. Donor egg?

Are you on bed rest now? When is your first blood test? OMG I am so excited for you!

Jenny - How long does it take to get back your PGD testing? Are you testing all 22 Embies?
When do you think your transfer will be? I hope you ovaries start to calm down for you soon.

I will update you guys later today after we get back from picking a few donors.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

Kayakr - That's a great question. Honestly we never seriously considered using donor eggs. I think if my eggs prove not viable we'd adopt a baby. But one step at a time! DH and I agreed to two cycles before we'd look into adoption, although this first cycle has been so much more involved (emotions running wild, a ton of medicine and injections, the time, and the physical discomfort and pain) I'm not sure at this point if I'd be willing to do this all over again. But, that's a question for next month, if ever. Hopefully these 3 little beans will stick like crazy glue!! :^)

Thank you for the sticky baby dust wishes, Mimi and Jenny!

I am on bedrest. My husband set up my monitor on my nightstand and I have a wireless keyboard next to my pillow! haha, trying not to get too bored

Jenny - WOWzers! 47 eggs? I can't imagine! Thats got to be some kind of record! Was the doctor surprised? I'm so happy for you that you will have plenty to freeze!

Kayakr - May I ask, is this your first cycle?

Paula - My doctor doesn't talk to me - he is SUPER nice when I do see him - but I only talk to the nurses. They were very impressed with my numbers! I think the doc hyperstimmed me on purpose though. I have a balanced translocation, which is why we are doing PGD - 1 out of 8 embryos are the statistics I am given.

Kayakr - we are on day 4, and are doing a day 5 biopsy. So - we will test whatever amount of embryos make it to the blastocyst stage. Its looking good right now!! Hey - I can't wait to hear about your results with the donors!

Here is my day 4 report on my embryos:

Day 4 - 26 fertilized. Out of 26,17 are where they should be, 2 are almost blasts!, 4 have stalled out, and 3 are
still chugging along.

So I have 19 really good ones at this stage! Tomorrow is the big day! We will
know how many blasts are there to biopsy! I'm so excited!

Jenny – Having 19 good ones gives you such great odds! That is so wonderful. Tomorrow seems so far away now.
Picked out 3 donors – it was a little emotional for me but I pushed past it. I think it was just being in the RE’s office around Christmas and remember last Christmas in the same office and all that we’ve been through the last year. It could also be I am just an emotional wreck. Lol Our top two donors are proven ones that have people pregnant right now with twins. Also both have extra embros to freeze too! So we really liked them. They are close to my height and eye and hair color. The first choice donor – this will be the last time she can be donor. She has done it twice before. The second donor has no kids of her own but has been a donor once before. The third choice is a donor has someone pregnant now AND has a 6 month old of her own. We put the $2000.00 down to start. Oh yeah – one donor looked like an ex-girlfriend of my DH so I said NO way to that one! Lol

Jenny that is really fantastic! Wow, imagine having 19 blasts to biopsy from one cycle, you are indeed lucky!! Those 3 may surprise you yet, my doctor said its possible to have late bloomers, just like in life! Perhaps they only give Vicodin to those who ask for it? I highly recommend! In my opinion, when I'm in pain, I tend to clench my teeth and bare down, which cant be good for relaxing for implantation.

Kayakr - Hahahaha @ crossing off the donor that looked like DH's ex! That is hilarious. Totally something I would do, haha. I'm so happy for you that you were able to find a number of good options that resemble you! No one will remember a few months from now that its a donor egg! I bet even you will practically forget that you used a donor egg when you are holding that beautiful baby in your arms! And you and hubby can have a private giggle when the grandparents argue about which side of the family he/she looks like!

Paula - will you test or will you wait till your first blood test.

I am already starting to feel better about it. I am not sure why it bothered me today. I have gone in the past myself to look through the donor book just so that I wouldn't be in shock when we "really" did it.
As soon as I looked at a one pictures I was like, " This looks like Lisa and when he agreed right away - I was like "NOWAY". lol

Gosh what are you doing besides surfing the web to kill time?

Great question, Kayakr - If I self test, will my medications give me a false positive?

I am not sure Paula - I am not a POAS addict so I hardly ever take them. I will be waiting until my Dr tells me.
I think the only drug that could give you the false positive is the trigger shot - did you get that right before retrieval?

MeeMee: They were able to retrieve 12, 9 made it to the blastocyst stage 3 were good quality 6 were a little lower quality. I just emailed my embryologist yesterday to see how many they were able to freeze, because I never got a count. The doctor transferred one even though I begged him to transfer two. He said I was high risk for OHSS, and if he transferred two it would but me in the hospital for sure.

He of course was right, I found out this past Monday after gaining 6.5 pounds in two days that I do have a mild case of OHSS. That was just with one embryo transferred. So last night I started a third injection which is called Lovenox, which I am told is supposed to help with the OHSS.

I am having a difficult time with the wait, as I am sure everyone does. I POAS yesterday day 6 after 5 day transfer and got a negative result, and I know it is possible it is too early it still got me down. I have had a lot of twinges down there and a lot of flu like aches. I am hoping these are good signs but who knows. Then I had a few pimples that sprouted up last night that got me worrying again because I usually get a couple before my period, I am hoping it is just the injections.

Ladies who have been through a cycle!

Is it normal to be in pain at this point? I was harvested exactly a week ago today (Wed), and had 3 embryos transferred on Monday. My ovaries kind of ache and throb, even through the Vicodin. I feel like I have bad period cramps. I keep freaking out that I'm going to start my period any minute. Could i be pregnant or is the ovary pain just leftover from the harvesting?

In my pre IVF monitoring, I didnt get a luteal phase, my ovaries did what my doctor called "collapsing" and I got a period instead after ovulation, which doesnt give a newly fertilized egg time to implant. So I am worried that that is the cause of my cramps. Should i call my doctor and insist they do blood work now? I have an appt for Friday

Paula are you on Progesterone since after your Transfer. That is what makes your lining full and also prevents your AF from starting regardless if you are pregnant or not. I would call your RE.

I bet you still Over stimulated still. I was over stimed last Feb and it took another cycle or two for the throbbing, hurty ovaries to go away.

Let us know how you are feeling today.

Paula - sounds like overstimulation to me. That is what I'm going through - and sometimes pregnancy prolongs it - so you could be pregnant? You might want to check with your doc!

jdmorford - Lovenox is a blood thinner - so, its hormone free. But - I'm not trying to take away the thing that is making you feel better - AF symptoms often occur with pregnancy too - so that COULD be what your experiencing...

kayakr - I'll be waiting for the bloodword from the doc too to tell if I'm pregnant when the time comes. I don't blame you for getting emotional at your appointments, or for canning the woman that looked like dh's ex! I know you'll find the one that is perfect for you both! I have to admit - this process is very foreign to me, and interesting. I really look forward to hearing more!

AFM - Well, doing well - hanging in there. I hurt still from the hyperstimulation. I called the doc last night - and well, the nurse said totally normal for the number of eggs I got - and that I should expect this for the next couple of weeks. I can handle the pain - but dangit! I have to find clothes to wear for Christmas! Everything I own is too tight - or too big on me at this point! YIKES! I'm shopping tomorrow. Maybe I can find something with a little stretch that I can wear a little during pregnancy too My last report was yesterday. 5 were biopsied, and 15 more were in the waiting. I'll have another report today - and will know how many total were biospied at that point.

Jenny – I hope your Ovaries feel better soon! Can you explain a little more with the PGD testing. So they test after they are blastocysts (5days) right? But what do they do with the blastocysts while they are waiting on the results from PGD? Do they freeze them or do they continue to grow beyond the 5 day mark? This process is fascinating to me.

Let me know what you’re interesting in knowing about the DE (donor egg) piece – I’ll be glad to share whatever I know and I’ll be updating along the way as well. I called yesterday to see if they got a hold of my donor. She is called, LAC. I am guessing that is her initials. They told me RE agreed to use her again yesterday and they called her and left her a message yesterday. So I am hoping I’ll here today if she has agreed or if we need to move to out 2nd pick. I kinda like our second pick better because she looks more like me. She is a tiny little thing though. 5’ 110 and her parents are real little two so DH was worried if we had a boy that he would be super short so she became our second choice. LAC our first choice, has a ¼ Puerto Rican in her and curly hair which neither of us have. But we figured if we got BFP with her that our baby would only be 1/8 Puerto Rican and would probably not get many of those traits, which neither of us have. TBH – we just want a healthy baby it really doesn’t matter

Kayakr - I'm just interested in learning as you go! I have no clue what to ask I wish you all the best - its so exciting that you've chosen this route... I know it was suggested to me back in 2007 when I had 2 unsuccessful IVF's. LAC sounds like she is very capable of helping you make a beautiful baby. How tall is your husband? How tall are you? I think alot of times, the boys take after their daddy with height. But of course - not always.

Ok - I'll tell you what's going on with me, then explain the PGD a little bit more. So - out of 47 eggs/38 mature/26 fertilized/ - only 10 made it blast stage for biopsy. 5 were day 5 biopsy, 5 were day 6.

PGD - Pre genetic diagnosis - basically, they do a 3 or 5 day biopsy. The 3 day is good cause it allows the embryo to be transferred that very same cycle. Day 5 (some 6 in my case) - is good, because I guess some of the embryos they would typically discard on day 3, make it to blastocyst stage - which is the stage at which there are many cells. Also - on day 3, you may be taking a biopsy of the actual embryo - where day 5/6 - they are biopsing the placenta. There are like 70-100 cells in a blastocyst, and like 8 I beleive on day 3. So - they take out a couple cells, and send them into the lab. Freeze the embryos, and I wait for the results now. I have a call into the RE's office to find out how soon I will know. I'm sure they told me - but I need to hear it again. I want to say they said 24-48 hours - but I may be wrong.

SO NERVOUS!! 10 doesn't seem like alot when I'm going to be eliminating some because they are genetically unbalanced!

Thanks for explaining Jenny. So basically you will then move to FET with your snow babies in Jan.

Don’t be worried that there are only 10 – it will work out hopefully so that you can do FET with perfect Embryos and still have snow babies. It is so awesome they got so many eggs from you in the first place so that you have plenty of healthy ones left. This whole process is crazy huh? I wonder if they will put you on the pill now to dormant your ovaries to get ready for FET?

DH is 5’11 Blond hair and Blue eyes, with Fair skin English and Dutch – total hottie . I am 5’2 and Brown Hair and Green eyes and German and Hungarian with Olive Skin. LAC is 5’5, 130 brown curly hair, brown eyes and Tans easily so I am thinking she has the olive skin as well. Our 2nd choice (the tiny one) looks a lot like me. We both looked at her picture and said wow she has the same chin I have. She had Green eyes and brown hair like me as well. Both had people pregnant right now with twins and frosties too.

Paula - how are you feeling today?

Jd - how are you today? Are you feeling better from you OHSS?
