Interesting comments on the PIO ladies! Melissa, I also didn't do the IM shots for my first two fresh IVF cycles or my first FET cycle. My RE decided to try something different for the second FET and instructed me to do PIO shots. Neither FET worked.

I just did some googling on "progesterone support ivf" and found the following articles very helpful.

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/736337

ASRM Patient Fact Sheet: Progesterone Supplementation During In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Cycles

Progesterone support in IVF: is evidenc... [Reprod Biomed Online. 2012] - PubMed - NCBI

Please don't think I'm trying to start a debate or anything negative during what is an already super stressful time for all of us. I just wanted to share some information I found. After reading about so many of you doing the PIO shots, I was afraid my RE may be doing something wrong by prescribing Crinone.

Good luck again to us all! My retrieval is officially scheduled for the week of November 4. Imagine a thread where we have 100% BFPs!!! It can (will!) happen!

I have never had to do PIO shots - I have always had suppositories. for this FET they also gave suppository type. Maybe it also depends on how they see an individual react to meds? Since I responded fine with suppositories, and was still successful with Olivia, I just wanted to go the same kind of route this time, or as close as I possibly could. Not to say that in the future they won't see a need to switch me to shots for some reason, but until then, I will take the suppostories.

My girlfriend is going through her 3rd round of IVF, she is doing the shots now and is in so much pain. She was so miserable she called the doctor to have them switch her to something else to see if that would work. I feel so bad for her, as nothing has really been easy for her in this whole process. I feel so bad when she asks me questions about my experiences and mine have all been fine, and she is just getting hit all around ;o( It just can really deoend on the person.

Bless everyone that goes through this process!!!!! Bless all of you amazing women, and here is to being blessed with BFP's!

Melissa - if you don't mind it taking longer, the 25 gauges definitely work. Do warm the oil first to thin it though.

I know for certain that the PIO for ME is not given because of a poor reaction to the suppositories. I have a very low BMI and respond very well to medicine. I have never had a progesterone problem with any of my pregnancies. Even my natural pgcy, that ended in m/c.
It is simply their FET protocol. It may change as they are always doing new studies, but for now it is... And they have AMAZING live birth rates, so I will suck up the pain and just go with it who am I to question them at this? Lol, I know I am very well informed and educated, but I can handle the pain

Jill....everything crossed for you! I had only 3 of my 4 fertilize and txferred 2 and I have my darling daughter!

Lindsey, my clinic does PIO because it is MUCH cheaper than the suppositories and sometimes the supps leak out, whereas the shot is in you and it's not going anywhere....they asked me which I wanted and I said shot. I don't mind it at all and it worked for me so far, with Mallory, so they decided to keep me on the same.

I'm sure it's different from clinic to clinic!!

GOOD LUCK Jill and Jenny on your transfers EEEEK

Thank you for the fingers crossed & good lucks.

I wish that we could have a growth update tomorrow. We do not get any more updates until Saturday morning when the lab calls to tell us what time to report for transfer - or not. Is it poor form to call & ask how things are going....perhaps tomorrow late morning?

JIll, waiting is SO hard. My clinic doesn't give us a fert report until we get there! I don't even get it the day after! All I know is how many came out of me. Both times I was just praying we had at least 2 good ones. They also won't give me Betas until both are drawn GRRRR!

Ugh, I would gladly pay more to not have to do these shots, IF the alternative works just as well. I could barely walk today

Jill - we don't get any more reports until transfer either. It sucks. I want to know how my embies are doing! I can't believe you don't even get a fertilization report, Leah! Don't these people know what we're going through?!

Hi All,

Wowza, looks like there's some great progress this month already!

Leah - how are you doing?

Jill - Fingers crossed for you on your transfer!!

AFM - I had my FET on 10/1 and I can't believe it, but I didn't test! But I could feel it...big & sore boobs gave it away. We got our beta back today and it's BFP at 130!! Does anyone have any reference as to whether this is good, high/low? We put 3 frosties in hoping for 1 or 2. At 44, I am cautiously hopeful...but we are over the moon!!

Hopefully this will inspire some more PFPs for everyone!!

Tamara

Congrats Tamara! Snuggle in tight little embies! (Sorry I don't know how the numbers compare).

Jill--fingers crossed for you! Sorry for the long wait. We had every other day updates for our fresh cycle. But as a trade off, my clinic only does 1 beta...at 2 weeks post transfer!! (I POAS long before that!)

Jenny--we did PIO for our fresh and are scheduled for it for our FET. I agree with Leah, PIO is much cheaper so my be the go to. Also, I've heard a lot about suppository leaking out. Too bad the PIO is such a PIA

AFM--New plan! So I ended up bleeding for 4 days this week. Ugh! But I also had a big increase in my estrogen dose. So this morning my lining was triple layer and measuring 8! He said it looked perfect! Except that he was nervous that I had bled. I could tell he was torn on what to do. In the end he decided it was best to "start over". I get a break from aspirin and doxy for now. My E2 was 980 (last week it was 179) so I get to drop my estrogen dose by 2 pills. My transfer date is now Oct 31! (I know I join a few of you now!). Just Lupron and estrogen until the 21st for more monitoring.

At first I was bummed to wait so long. And I'm nervous that my lining won't last long enough (my DH is really worried about this). I was told I will likely spot but that's ok. But I go to Vegas and Orlando before the 31st so now I can relax and know I'm not keeping the snowbaby from snuggling in while I travel. Also, I looked up a new EDC (can't help myself!!) and it's around July 18th! My bday is the 17th and DH is the 16th!

Lol!!! I love that there are so many Halloween transfers!!!!!

My husband administered my first IM shot of estrogen! I am pretty sore and have a nasty bruise. The injection itself didn't really hurt at all!

I'm so proud of my hubby! He haaaates needles lol

Melissa, we also didn;t do IM for our fresh cycle but our FET will also be suppositories PLUS PIO. I am nervous but f*** it, I will do anything at this point.

Tamara- How many days are you? Sounds like a good # to me!

Jenny- Sounds awesome! We had 15 fertilize too and many made it to freeze! So things are looking good for you i think!! I also had a rough time after ER but you should feel fine soon!!

AFM-So sorry i am so behind! Sorry if I miss anyone! My sister had her baby (day before my EDD for my m/c- that was hard) and I have him nights since his borth last week. I am so in love tho. My hormones are jacked tho. I am bleeding on an off on BCP since his birth. My boobs hurt like they want to nurse! Uhg! LOL! I hope it doesn't keep going! My sister is freaked out she will screw up our FET! LOL!
