Sooo... I'm easily motivated by money, lol. I smoked for 6 years and then my mom offered me $500 if I could quit for six months. Three days after she made the offer, I quit cold turkey... and here I am 16 months later still smoke-free! I still can't believe I just quit cold turkey on my first try either! But anyway, everytime I was tempted to quit I felt like I was throwing away $500 (not to mention my health, among other things...) and I pushed through the craving/nicotine fit.

So, my step dad and I have made a bet. (actually, I'll have to follow up on this b/c I'm not sure if it's a bet like, if I can't I owe him... or just a motivation, like, if I can I get the $ and if not, whatever) BUT if I can run 3 miles in 32 minutes without stopping.... in 3 months, then he'll give me $100!

Do you think this is realistic? My mom and I plan on doing the c25k prog, but I'm worried that won't be enough to whip me into shape to run it that fast, kwim? and I don't want to go ahead b/c the prog says not to... but I feel like if it's for $100 (and fitness towards my wedding day too!) then I won't give up. I don't know though.

What do you girls think? Has anyone tried this? For the girls who already work out regularly, was there atime you didn't work out, and how long did it take you to get your butt in gear? lol

Opinions please!

I think you can do it! Usually if I stop working out and get back into it after a month or two. I have never been a runner though..

I think it is definitly possible...to run a mile in ten minutes is not hard..and it is at a nice pace. in three months you should be able to work up to it! Just make sure u start slow and start woking your way up. You can do it and with the extra added motivation of money then you can definatly do it!

plus with all the running you will be doing to train you will lose weight!!

BUTTTTT! one word of advice...before you start running work on your ab for about a week really hardcore! like everyday..then do your abs bere you run, and after! Your abs are a huge part of running...if you work on then a lt you will reduce cramping while running!

yay! my knowledge comes in handy somewhere!

Ooh Thanks audrey... I'm gonna work my way up slow doing the couch to 5k thing... and spend the first month just going at the pace that feels appropriate for my body and when I get the hang of it, then working on speed I guess. I will def. start doing more work on the crunches! my prob hasn't ever really been that my legs get tired (although I'm sure with how out of shape I am now it will be!) but that I just LOATHE feeling out of breath and having my heart pump extra hard... you know, the whole important cardio bit. haha

Shannon, I am the same way! I hate feeling out of breathe! I know cardio is best for losing weight, but I have such a hard time getting motivated because I hate that out of breathe feeling.

Good luck with the c25k program! I think I'll be able to start tomorrow.

My mom has promised me 500 towards a treadmill or eliptical if I can get reach tyhe halfway point for my weight loss

I DID IT!

I started tonight! lol... my mom came with me! She mostly just power walked, but kept with the c25k times. So day 1, work out 1 completed! We're doing it again Saturday morning at 11! andddd the best part -- IT WASN'T BAD!

Girls, I have no exercised in quite some time aside from long walks with Rilo. I go to the gym and prefer the bike b/c I get to sit down and this was totally fine. It went by super quick b/c of the time intervals and I never got bored or over-exerted. I feel accomplished for not pushing myself too hard and I'm even looking forward to going back on Saturday. YAY ME!

yay!! sounds like a great plan.

I think you can do it. For running, and not feeling out of breath, i suggest when u feel like ur gasping or if you get a cramp, breath in deeply thru ur nose and then out thru ur mouth, this takes away my cramps if i do it for like 5-6 breaths and it helps control my mild asthma. And I also suggest good shoes! I get mad shin splints when I run if i'm in crappy shoes. And if you find that your joints or shins are hurting one day but u are supposed to be running, hit the elliptical cuz you want to make sure that you don't injure yourself b/c that is really counterproductive! Main rule, if it hurts, stop!

And GL! I *know* you can do it!!
What will u buy with that $100? heheh

I love you girls, thanks for being so supportive! I'm trying to figure how many mph I have to run on the treadmill in order to do it in time... it's like what 6 mph I guess? That seems doable. I've been doing the 'jog' portions of the program so far on 5.4 and that's just for the jogging part. I really tihnk I can do it! I hope so!

Sarah, I cannot do the elliptical to save my life. I don't know WTH is wrong with me... when I was a kid I took 5 years of ballet, tap & jazz, I played softball for 8 years, I ran track for 2 and played volleyball in highschool... I should be coordinated enough that the elliptical wouldn't be a problem but whenever I get on it I lock my knees and look like a dumb@ss on the darn thing! haha. When I get into the hang of doing it 'right' (you're supposed to feel like you're just running on it, yeah?) then I get tired after like 2 minutes. I HATE that thing.

What will I dow ith the $? I'll just throw it into the wedding fund, more likley. Tryign to save save save!

well the bikes or stairclimber or even walking are low impact options.....one thing my trainer told me was never do running two days in a row (when i had a trainer before my wedding), its such high impact and can stress your joints over time. and 5.4 jogging, that's awesome!! so you'll run 6 mph for 32 min? that's some serious exercise!!! but totally doable, and a really great challenge......
