Tell me about it. What is it, where do you get it, what does it do?

I know it's good for you... and that's about the extend of it.

Flaxseed and flaxseed oil are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid that appears to be beneficial for heart disease. ALA belongs to a group of substances called omega-3 fatty acids.

You can get it in whole, ground flaxseeds, or flaxseed oil. It has a nutty flavor. You can buy it at health food stores and some grocery stores. Flaxseed can provide protection against Heart Disease, Cancer and Diabetes. It can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Flaxseed provides comparable cholesterol-lowering benefits to statin drugs. It's rich in Fiber!! It can give protection to women's health (breast cancer). It can fend off dry eyes. You can add it to your recipes to include it in your diet.

Btw, Flaxseed should not be taken when pregnant. However, you can take a high quality fish oil. I just bought a Prenatal DHA supplement by Nordic Naturals. It's for infant development of the brain, eyes, and nervous system. DHA also provides mood and nerve support for the mother.
