Alright ladies, I'm going to the store tomorrow and was hoping you could help me build my shopping list. It seems I always under or over buy on produce, where we either eat it all in like2 days or it goes bad. Any suggestions on the quantities for 2 people? Also, when it comes to meat... how much should I get in one trip? How much do you get? lol. I usually grab like 1 chicken, 1 pork and 1 beef. When we freeze the pork it winds up gross when we cook it... and I hate this issue of thawing, although it's obviously necessary. Do you all freeze and then take out and put in the fridge if you plan on it the next night for dinner? How do you work this? lol.

Please list some healthy choices that you like to buy every time you shop... it may be something I hadn't tried or thought of and I'm trying to add more variety to our diet.

Also if you have any good recipes, feel free to post those and include the ingredients so I can pick em up and try them!

I appreciate your input, thanks girls!

I stock up on chicken. I usually have at least 3 lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast in the freezer. You can always thaw and throw a light seasoning on for a low fat meal with them. Also, steaks are versatile. I chop them up and use them in stew and teriyaki. I don't do a lot of pork except in ground versions.

I always get tortillas too because they are low point compared to bread. We go through a head of lettuce a week here. And a lot of tomatoes, lol. I stock up on frozen veggies-steamfresh-too because they are easy and low points.

We only buy chicken and beef, and we freeze it all. We shop for two weeks at a time so we have no other choice. The morning of the meal we put it in a bowl of cold water in the sink. We try to alternate our meals from one "meat" to one "beans/pasta" meal.

My favorite meal is greek pasta. You heat up a can of pinto beans, can of diced tomatos, and a bag or frozen of spinach. Add that to whole wheat pinne pasta. Makes a great leftover for work later that week.

Also it's winter and we don't love a nice warm soup! Try out some low sodium broths and add veggies. You can eat it for more than one meal.

As for produce we buy alot of apples and pears. We pack lunch everyday for work so I figure we eat one of those maybe 4 times a week. I'm not a huge fan or raw veggies so we usually buy them frozen and cook them with dinner. But we love sweet potatos and plan those at least once a week.

every week we buy (for us 2)

-apples
-bananas
-grapefruits (we split one for breakfast a couple times a week)
-chicken breasts (we do freeze some - cuz i buy the valu pack)
-lactose free milk 2% (i get 2% so I can use it in my coffee, cuz skim milk just does not work in coffee for me!)
-a few cartons of eggs (i hardboil probably half or more of them and we eat them on salads or i make egg salad, or we just peel n eat with salt n pepper)
-a container of prewashed salad
-cherry tomatoes (just throw these on the above salad with a handful of trail mix and a bit of dressing-yum)
-tomatoes (i try to add these to my cooking as much as i can for the health benefits)
-whole wheat bread
-lowfat lunch meats (in the prepackaged section, as they have longer expiry dates than if u get the meats at the deli counter)
-swiss cheese

We don't drink any bottled water or any pop so that cuts down our cost, actually i pretty much avoid the Chips/Pop aisle like the plague.....only bad things happen if i venture down that aisle!
