I'll throw some suggestions at ya!
For the water thing, check out that water article I posted
here's a link -- that motivates me to drink more water b/c I understand what it does for my body regarding fat storage, etc.
For exercise, I started the couch to 5k program that you may have seen in one of the exercise threads, and so far I'm really enjoying it. If your'e walking 5 days a week with a friend it sounds like you're doing good. Maybe add in some things that count as exercise but were considered just fun when you were kids... I like hula hooping and jumping rope. I also really enjoy strength training, so even when I'm not at the gym I'm doing floor work at home.
Keep in mind with salads that if you get a creamy dressing like ranch or honey mustard you're probably eating just as many calories/fat as you would be if you got a 'less healthy' option.. when salads have eggs and cheese and croutons and heavy dressing you're can easily turn your well intentions into a less than optimal choice. Restaurants tend to REALLY overportion... so I would suggest asking for a to-go box when you get your meal... b/c if you halve it immediatly, you won't eat as much as if the whole amount is on your plate to pick at. Or ask for a smaller plate or bowl... you'll really notice what a large portion it is. Also if you're tryign to cut back on mindless calories, if they offer bread or chips, while you wait for your meal... ask them not to bring it, or ask them to only bring it when they bring your food and you won't be tempted to stuff as much in.
HTH!
