This is a creation of my aunt-in-law and is wonderful for large gatherings. Halves very easily and freezes quite well. A family favorite around here.
1 medium onion, peeled and chopped
2 large or 3 medium green peppers, seeded and coarsely chopped
garlic (about 3/4 of a small jar of minced)
5 lbs. hamburger
1 12 oz. package sweet or mild sausage
large jar spaghetti sauce (she uses Prego, the size up from the small one - not the huge family size plastic jar)
salt & pepper
Saute onion, pepper and garlic in oil until soft. Dump in crockpot. Brown hamburger in pan with more garlic then dump in the crockpot. To cook sausage, cook for 5 minutes in the microwave, then slice in half the long way and cook until done in pan, then chop into small pieces (this is how she does it, I brown in a pan
like hamburg). Add to crockpot. Pour spaghetti sauce over all, then add oregano, parsley, salt & pepper to taste. Stir and cook on low for several hours - gets better as it cooks longer. Serve in rolls.
