DS is in the phase of not listening to anything I say any more. It seems to have gotten progressively worse. I've been struggling with how to handle it, we've mostly been using consequences, you know like if you don't pick up the books I'll take them away, and that worked for a few days, but now I just have a giant box of stuff that I've take away.

Do you have a method that works for you?

I repeat myself, a lot. If a verbal request goes "unnoticed" or gets protested, then we will hold hands and do the request together. I still use this method with Emma.

I've tried taking things away before, and I just end up with a big bin of toys too. It's just not worth it because in the end nothing got done anyways. So yea, I have to stop whatever I'm doing to "help" them do what they need to be do, but it's consistent (meaning if I say, it's time to clean up the toys, the toys are getting cleaned up) and it gets done together with everyone helping instead of me throwing them in a bin while they're crying about losing their toys.

I tried that yesterday, and it took a lot of protesting, but maybe if I do it more it will sink in. My kids never had an issue with this before my child care picked up. I have a couple families that don't make their children pick up there toys. Ugh

Oh boy, I get a lot of protesting sometimes, but most of the time they'll just join in and help.

Agree with all of the above. If Dilyn whines, doesn't listen or throws a fit we either do the task together or she goes to a time out on a living room rug until she calms down and does what I asked.
