The tops taste just a soft sugar cookie! Do not need to be buttered or jellied or anything - just have with a big cold glass of milk. A comfort muffin ... would be good with blueberries or golden raisins folded in just before filling the pan, too.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter (used butter flavor crisco)
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
2 cups flour
pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350. Cream sugar and butter; add eggs and vanilla and cream again. Sift dry ingredients. Add half of the flour mixture and half of the sour cream alternately to the sugar/butter mixture; beat. Add remaining flour and sour cream and mix well - makes a thick batter. Spoon, dividing evenly, into 12 paper lined muffin tins (regular size). Before baking, sprinkle tops of muffins with sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
