1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cream of tarter
1/8 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
**In a large mixing bowl beat with mixer, butter and shortening for 30 seconds.
Add sugar, powdered sugar, baking soda, cream of tarter, and salt.
Beat untill all combined.
Beat in egg and vanilla.
Beat in flour; if cannot with mixer use a spoon by hand.
Cover and chill for 3 hours or until easier to work with.
**Shape into 1 inch balls(maybe easier to coat hands with sugar while making the balls)
Place onto an UNgreased cookie sheet about 3 inches apart.
Flatten with hands or a glass dipped into sugar.
Bake 350 for 7-9 minutes until lighly brown.
Cool on wire racks.
Makes 40 cookies.
I just made these for Fathers Day and to decorate the tops I dipped the kids fingers in food coloring to place on cookie. I put two finger prints each sideways to make a heart. With red food coloring and then put red sprinkles on the heart. Made these for my FIL who loves cookies.
