A couple of weeks ago, I received news from my family in Ontario that my grandpa was in the hospital. He went in after Easter weekend not feeling well, and they ran some tests to see what was up. Long story short, he has been diagnosed with colon cancer and it's estimated that he doesn't have very much time left (maybe a couple of weeks). They suspect that he's had it for a few years and just not known.

We were going to send me up for a week or two, but plane tickets are flat out extortionate and it definitely wouldn't have allowed for dh to come with me. Instead, he offered to drive both of us up. We're going to rent a car because our van has been making some odd noises and we aren't sure we want to make an impromptu big drive in it without having a chance to have someone look at it, but the cost of renting a car for a week is about 1/3 of what the plane ticket would have cost (for just me). I was worried about dh taking more time off of work but we found out yesterday that apparently he has unused vacation from last year (we could have sworn he used it all when he visited me/helped me move last summer - talk about provision ). I'm really happy that I'll have dh with me too. He has been so supportive and caring.

We're leaving tomorrow morning. I'm not sure how I feel - overwhelmed, mostly. Thankful that we're able to go up. Scared of seeing everyone sad and my grandpa sick. He hasn't been in great health for a long time, but nothing like this. I'm very, very close to him and my grandma (I even lived with them for awhile when I was going through a difficult part of life a few years ago), and I have been blessed to have all four of my grandparents alive into my 20s. I've never had to deal with anything like this before. If you could, could you please keep my family in your prayers?

I just wanted to update that we are here and okay. I'll add more later but he has passed on. we were here in time for him to see us though, and have been thankful to be surrounded by family. Prayers for my grandma would be lovely. She is doing okay but is still understandably quite overwhelmed and sad right now.

My dh has been amazing.
