Clayton brings home a birthday party invitation about once a month. Every.single.party has been on weekends that he's been at his moms. He's never gotten to go to them.

Oh that is sad. We used to let Doni skip visits if she had a party she really wanted to go to.

Yeah, I'm sure that would go over well with their mom.

He hasn't asked her as far as I know. I guess he knows she wouldn't go for it.

that makes me so sad. We had this issue with my sister when we were little, and it wasn't that my mom wasn't willing... it just wasn't logistically possible to take her to a party 40 minutes away with 2 little kids, and a bigger little kid in tow. But her mom was too much of a witch to switch up a weekend to make it possible. (My sisters's BM makes a few of yours look like angels... seriously... awful awful woman.)

Well, I talked to Clayton today and he's decided to ask his mom for the party this coming weekend. He really wants to go.

We're proposing that she pick them up at 4 on Saturday instead of 6 on Friday and keep them to noon on Monday (we'd let her keep them longer, but they have a dental appointment at 2 on the other side of the State on Monday). Neely sent her an email tonight, so we'll see how it goes.

I hope she agrees! I can't imagine being so selfish as to not let a kid go to a birthday party.

That sometimes happens here, except the other way around (the kids will be invited to something on weekends they're supposed to be with us). Some of the locations are 1.5-2+ hours away from our house, and it simply can't work to get them there most of the time. Either dh would need to do 4 hours of driving (plus hang around for however long the party is, since it doesn't make sense to drive back home then have to turn around and leave again) and not see the other kids all day Saturday, or we have to cart everybody else around for 4+ hours.

It really does make us sad that we can't get them there. That said, we have offered for whichever child was invited to stay home with bm (as in we'd still have everyone else) so that she can take him/her (as these places are usually A LOT closer to her house) but her consistent response has been, "I get little time without kids as it is. Stop suggesting I give it up to take one to a birthday party."

I really hope that she responds well to Neely's email.

That sad part is that's not even me paraphrasing through the filter of general dislike for the woman. That's a verbatim quote from more than one email.

Ugh. Her phone is turned off. If it's off the cable/internet is too, which means she won't get the email.

: smh:
