So Wednesday, bm leaves a message saying she's having trouble with dsd & that dsd wants to come & live with us. We have her for Thanksgiving (which is normal) and we can have her for all of Christmas break (we usually only do New Years). OK fine. We've wanted this for years.

But the crazy just drops the bomb & then doesn't return any of dh's phone calls. What is up with that? This isn't an extra weekend or something. This is a major life event for dsd & us. They currently live 4 hours away so it's a big move getting all her stuff here plus we'd have to register her for school.

No bm has never done anything like this before so we think she's at least somewhat serious but we don't know. They may have just had a big fight & it's blown over by now. But we'd really like to know

Sorry she's ignoring you guys. I hope it wasn't something she just said out of anger. I know it would mean a lot to have her live with you guys. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

That kind of thing drives me nuts. I hope she gets back in touch with you soon. I don't understand these people.

Not that I hunt or anything, but heck I would start if we had a douchecanoe hunting season.

I bet it's something to do with seasonal affective disorder/the holidays that's sending some into weird behavior patterns.

Though in my case, she's just an all around idiot all the time.

Agreed! There may be something to that theory, though...

I'm wondering if the things that are going on with dh's ex aren't a result of her stroke. She's physically ok but I read that there can be personality changes after a stroke.....

Ok so now I have this running in my head

"Kill the douchecanoe, Kill the douchcanoe"

Ok for those oldies like me, this is in an Elmer Fudd voice to the tune of "Kill the rabbit, Kill the rabbit"

Disclaimer: for the record, I don't have any intentions of killing anyone

Oh Kris I so envisioned that before you even said Elmer Fudd.

I hope she realizes that these "threats" she makes to her child of being sent to go live with her father are going to backfire on her. The first time the child may cry a bit and be sad, but after a while she will be like no problem...let me go! Thats what my mom did to me and junior year I finally said good and went. She tried to get me to go home and I wouldn't. I didn't even talk to her for nearly 3 years after I moved in with my father.

The child is 14 and according to Dh, bio mom said it was dsd that said she wanted to come live with us. Not bio mom threatening. This has never happened in the 8 years that dh has been divorced from her (well at least that we were notified). Though I don't wonder if dsd has regretted the statement. While she loves us, it will be hard for her to move 4 hours away from her mom, sister & all her friends. Plus they live in a rural town of less than 300 people & we live in the suburbs of Chicago. Way big difference.

Still no word btw. Hoping that dh can at least get confirmation on the exchange for Thanksgiving and then once we have dsd with us, we can get the scoop.

Maybe dsd did change her mind. At that age moving away from your friends and everything you know can seem pretty scary! My dad only lived like 25 minutes from us and it was a big city that everyone in my town always went to for the mall, movies, restaurants, etc. So it wasn't hard on me. But if my parents were 4 hours away from each other I might not have been able to leave my friends and move.
