so we had the kids the last two weekends since DH was home, before they started school when we took them home DH walked inside her house and told me it was pretty messy, but he only saw the living room, I didn't think too much of it, I mean she does have a toddler(not DH's) and is working(fulltime? part time? idk) and my house certainly isn't cover of a magazine clean but today when we took them back Audrey woke up from a nap in the car and had to pee so I asked if we could use her bathroom so Audrey could pee because it's almost a 2 hr drive back home, the bathroom was a the back of the house, through the kitchen and her bedroom... so I saw pretty much everything, it was disgusting! dishes piled up, food laying out, clothes everywhere, trash over flowing, bathroom was a wreck, doors were ripped off... she said "sorry I haven't done anything today" I just smiled and said" oh me either, all I did today was vacuum" but really I wanted to not let my child pee in there...

when we got back in the car I told DH he needed to see the rest of the house, that it was more than just messy.. she has a girl living with her that doesn't work, she just takes care of the kids while BM is at work.. so SOMEONE could be cleaning the house.
It makes me sad that the kids live like that.

Oh no! I'm so sorry That is terrible! I mean, my house is far from spotless, and sometimes we go to bed and save the dishes for the morning or something. There are usually toys and papers out different places, and washed laundry waiting to be folded. I get it. I get clutter and even a little bit of a mess. But it sounds unsanitary and disgusting. It's hard to think that the kids are growing up with that as their "normal"

There is a difference between messy and downright filthy.

Dh and I did not really clean this weekend, so on Sunday we had like 3 loads of laundry and the dishwasher and vacuuming to do.

But I have showed up to BM's before, and she will have 2 or 3 BIG BLACK garbage bags full of trash sitting next to the garbage. I have made Owen take them down to the garbage before because he shouldnt have to live like that.

And it's always the same excuse you got, "Sorry havent had a chance to clean.."

Since when? Since you moved in?!

Sorry you have to deal with that. It sucks knowing you can provide so much more.

That is sad. I too will say that my house is not spotless. There are some dishes in the sink and the floor needs swept, moped, and vacuumed. However, if someone walks into my house, I am not embarrassed about it. The kids rooms are ok clean. The boys' room smells like a locker room, but that is the price to pay with 2 teenage boys. My kids have sheets on the bed, but is hardly ever fully made up. Dani will take her sheets off for some reason and sleep on the bare mattress. Why, I don't know, but at least all the parts to her bed are there with all the naked barbie dolls.

Yeah there's a difference between messy & filthy. My house is definitely messy but it's because we have too much stuff . We take out the garbage & put the dishes away and stuff. And we both work.

Anyway, poor kids. Do you think a call to dcfs is in order?

Big difference between messy and gross! My house is messy in spots. Yes the sinks may have toothpaste on them and clothes may miss the hamper but a quick tidy and its back into shape.

The way I determine how bad my house is, is if my parents say, "Okay we will stop over in 15 minutes," does that give me enough time to make it spotless!

We also have 3 dogs, so our house being messy isn't usually dishes in the sink, or garbage not being taken out, DH and I always tag team all the household chores.

If our house is messy, I am vacuuming the tumbleweeds of german shepherd hair off the tile and spraying down surfaces to dust everything because out backyard is all rocks and the dogs track in a lot of dust.

Never deplorable living conditions kind of messy, lol
