One bin that the city provides, I'm not sure exactly what amount it holds in gallons or litres or whatever, but we usually have 2 kitchen 13 gallon bags and the contents of 2 bathroom garbage baskets. Unless we did a major clean or had a birthday party or something.

We are a family of 6.

Well, there are just three of us right now, so it's pretty easy. We recycle everything we can, use cloth wipes and diapers, and buy things in bulk (like rice, lentils, etc.). And our one bag is a very small bag--I watched the garbage man throw our bag in the garbage truck the other day and thought that he must love us with our one little bag.

We are at about 3 small bags/week, but our apt doesnt have recycling so that includes everything. Most of what we throw out is vegetable peelings. If we ever move to a house it will be much less because we can recycle more and do compost.
