I would love to make my own liquid laundry detergent, however, I was wondering if anyone knew if it was septic tank safe?

We just replaced our septic tank and laterals and became aware that powdered anything will tear up the tank and system. We would love to stay away from this......

Being more green is a goal for us, and any help would be great (websites, etc.)

Thanks girls

Welcome Stephanie!

I am not sure of any recipe for homemade liquid laundry detergent, but am really interested in that - I am almost out of my current laundry detergent, and will need to make my own!

Unfortunately I haven't heard of anything that would be safe for a septic tank. It isn't something you want to fool around with either because a damaged tank can be a huge problem.

I haven't found anything to make me think that the home made liquid detergent would be harmful, b/c everything is melted and dissolved...and as long as none of it contains phosphates, then I "think" we're good to go....

Nothing in borax, or washing soda contains phosphates...not sure about the soap yet.

Thanks girls!
