Have you tried converting your toys to greener and more eco friendly toys? Rid yourself of the plastics?

We are trying more and more but there are some toys out there we just CANT find in greener means...or if we do they are outrageous. DD LOVES toys that light and make noise and there just are not many out there I have found.

Do you know of any?

We are only ordering from places like Franklin Goose and stores like it and have requested toys like those for birthday and Christmas.

This is one area where I have made NO effort. I am good about not throwing things away though unless they are just completely unusable. I try to give away or donate most toys.

I have recently made the decision to destash Brylie's toys (sell them to a consignment store like once upon a child) and use that money to buy safer toys. I looked up a lot of her toys on Goodguide.com and almost had a stroke with the carcinogens in them! (I realize it is hypocritical of me to sell the toys, but I don't want them filling a landfill and I realize not everyone has the means to buy the more expensive toys and I think that playing with a toy is better for a child than having nothing at all)

most Melissa & doug toys I have found to be safe, and brylie really loves to play with puzzles..even though she can't do them, she loves them..and sassy brand toys I have found to be of the "safer" plastics...some things I have looked up on goodguide from Franklin Goose have actually not been that safe, so definitely double check that.

My MIL got angry with me tonight when I told her I was getting rid of most of the toys she has given Brylie and that I don't want her playing with the toys from when DH was a child (hello???? ) but whatever, she can kiss my butt

I agree with everything Chels. Yes I know FG doesn't have everything "good" but alot of their toys are. But I am also aware that anything painted will increase the "bads" so unless you have all natural unpainted toys you will have something.

I have recently found (need to find again) an etsy store that makes toys but uses fruit to dye the pieces...kind of like the rattles and teething toys.

This is something that is really hard to do and it does cost money sadly.
