What do you use to mow the lawn? I'm thinking about getting a reel mower, they have them for less than $100 at Home Depot!

Next Tuesday we are buying a used riding lawn mower. We have to mow 1.5 acres, though. We have been using a push mower for a year, and it is REALLY hard, even with a self propelling one. We only mow every other week, though, and we have no problem letting our grass get a bit tall in between.

Yea, I would only use it for "small easy" areas around the yard, but we do still have a riding mower because we live on an acre right now

I wouldn't mind having a reel mower to use right in front of the house in between the times the whole yard is mowed. Sometimes my chickens get lost in the grass. haha!

Nice!! The riding mower we are getting is from DH's coworker. He got a new one, so we are buying his old, but still working one for $100! All it needs is new back tires, otherwise it is in perfect condition.

It's really funny with them getting lost in the grass. The ducks are bigger than the chickens, and if you go out there and they are in the tall parts of the grass, if you yell out "Hey Duck Buddies!!", you just see 4 duck heads pop up above the grass, and they are like "WHAT?" hahaha!!

I have a reel mower, I found it on freecycle and it was like new when I picked it up. I love using it in my front yard. Hubby does the back and side yard with the riding mower, we have a big hill in the back yard so I don't ride the mower up and down it, hubby will, but the first time I saw it slide down the hill I was like nope! lol

The biggest issue with reel mowers is if the grass is too tall it will just bend it over so it's kind of hard to get it all. Also rocks and sticks will stop it, most of the time you can just move it the opposite way and the rock or stick will fall out and you can just pick it up and toss it out of the grass.
