Grow your own

1. What fruit/veg have you managed to grow yourself?

2. What have you done with any fruit/veg you've managed to grow - used it in your own cooking, sold it, given it away, or a mixture?

We have grown apples, pears, plums, strawberries (plants all long dead now sadly) as well as some potatoes and carrots in the past, and numerous herbs.

We have always just used it in our own cooking. My aunt's daughter has an apple tree now and never uses her apples so we always get a load of those each year and I use them to make apple pie.

We haven't grown anything yet. We just moved into our house in February. Next year I would like to grow strawberries and blue berries. I'll have to see if we have the room

When I lived with my parents at our first residence, we had an apple tree and we grew tomatoes, squash, peppers and zuchini. I was very young (We moved when I was 11) But sometimes my friends and I would eat the apples off the tree. And then we got in trouble :O Apparently that year they weren't sprayed or treated for worms.

The only thing I have managed to grow all by myself so far is basil, but it is the only thing I have tried as well. My family back home has a huge garden every year that I always helped with (it was my aunt and uncle and they basically raised me). My favorite thing was the squash-I love fried squash.

Now that we are in our new home (for three years at least) I am in the process of planning a garden, I will have one 17'x5' raised bed and one 4.75'x4.75' for sure. Our back yard is situated kind of weird because it has a huge hill in it and I can't use the incline space. I am thinking I will put veggies in the larger bed and herbs in the smaller bed.

I honestly know nothing about laying out a garden though so if anyone has any advice I would appreciate it!

Grow your own

1. What fruit/veg have you managed to grow yourself? All kinds! Potatoes, blackberries, oranges, lemons, beans, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, squash and an assortment of herbs.

2. What have you done with any fruit/veg you've managed to grow - used it in your own cooking, sold it, given it away, or a mixture? I've made marmalade, pies, tomato paste, sun-dried tomatoes, canned tomatoes, pumpkin pies, dried herbs, jeeze the list goes on. I love cooking and I love gardening (hence my username).
