Ok so our mail boxes are in the lobby and anyone off the street can come in and see them.... and even break into them if they choose to. So we have break ins every once in a while around the 1st of the month,welfare day!

The LL does know about this and has for years now and the tenants have complained and given him suggestions to fix the issue. He of course doesn't listen.

Normally my check is direct deposit to my bank account and it's up to me to pay rent and bills or whatever needs to be done with it. All I get in the mail box is the proof that I keep and send part of it back. This month though,they was a problem and welfare said that was late so I went down Friday to fill out the form and they said my check should arrive by Tuesday,today.

LL came last night for the rent,tried to come into my apartment even though I was holding the door so he it was obvious that he wasn't invited in. I said it would come today and he complained. So imagine how upset he was today when I called and said not to expect the rent for at least another week b/c I needed a new check b/c mine was stolen and ALL but 3 mail boxes were broken into.

You know he told me to call 9-1-1 and make a police report! Idiot! I'm not calling that number for this I'm sure I'll get into trouble.

I really needed my money today and had errands that need to be done asap and can't be done unless I have money. Also I'm not feeling that well since the nausea has returned so I can't be out that much. I had to spend the afternoon at the wellie office trying to get things sorted. They told me IF the check doesn't come by tomorrow they will issue another one that will go to my bank directly,but that will take a few days.

Either way on the check I write to the LL as the "memo" I'm going to add a note that says "rent is late due to mail box theft,please fix mail boxes". This way his wife,the actual owner will see it. I know he won't tell her otherwise.

Ok so I looked out the bathroom window and saw a police car a little while ago. I thought I should put on some pants in case he was here for me and my walking around naked all the time.... ! Just kidding! I just had a feeling they were here about the mail boxes and someone may come to my door. The LL called me and told me to take down the file number of the report HE made. Yay!!! He said they'd be fixed this week. We'll see about that though! I ran into him in the lobby a little while after that when I took out some garbage/recycling at the sane time the janitor came out to go to his night job. He was just checking his mail and I joked and said "no need for your key tonight" and he noticed his box was broken as well. He says that he saw a woman here last night who came in to get dry when she was caught in the rain,but he's seen her many times before around the same time of the month.

Is there a federal law about breaking into mailboxes in Canada? Is it really that easy to get into your mailboxes? Your landlord really needs a kick in the butt.

geeze that sucks majorly. i now get all my mail sent elsewhere due to theft i have had where i live. recently i had my electricity cut off due to not getting a bill which really didnt help. have it all sorted now but its a real PITA.

the land lord wont kick you out will he?

Well lucky for me it's not easy at all to kick some one out once you have a lease with them.

It is a federal offense I believe to break into a mail box. I have no idea who did it though or when it happened. I honestly don't check the boxes daily,but I've been told that it's happened often before. Always around check day as well. I don't know if a police report was ever made though by any of the tenants. I should ask one of them that I talk to from time to time. I'm not sure if I should report this or my landlord should since it was almost all the boxes that were broken into and not just mine.

The only place I can have my mail sent to is the post office,but that will cost me about $30 a month or so. I don't have friends near enough to gave it sent to. Plus I shouldn't need to have it sent anywhere else.
