What noise level do you write best in?

Do you need complete and total silence ? Or is a little bit of background noise is good for you?

Maybe soft music or loud music?

Or do you write best when there's lots of noise, lots going on around you?

Before I had kids I had to have total silence to be able to write. Now I've had to learn to adapt and can do it pretty much any time lol

It depends on what I'm writing. If I'm writing a scene where people are having fun I can listen to music. If I'm writing a serious scene I have to have silence.

These experiences, while often difficult to bear at the time, are percisely the kinds of experiences that stretch our understanding, build our character and increase our compassion for others."

I like some noise... like the TV or music. I like to write late at night when the kids are in bed... CAN I write when they are running circles around me? Yes. Do I like to? No.

It's amazing how you learn to adapt once you have kids!

It's either adapt or never write again lol. I seriously do not get a minute to myself during the day to just sit down uninterrupted and write. And it's usually when I'm busy doing something that a huge idea strikes me. At night when they're in bed I'm stumped.

Familiar music helps, but I can't stand din (eg builders, roadworks, cars/bikes revving, shouting etc.
