Have YOU ever been offended by something in a book?

Not really.

I do struggle to read historical fiction, because I hate the way people were treated back then.... I mean, I read it, I just hate seeing the N word used loosely in books that are set in pre-civil war times.

I'd have to say probably so, but off-hand I can't think of any examples.

I agree with this. Not offended personally but the use of the N word bothers me. I skip over it when reading Mark Twain books which are some of my fav.

I dislike the N word in Mark Twain also. I wouldn't say I was offended, but it's unpleasant and we're not used to hearing it in modern society.

Even if I found something in a book, which I would find offensive should I meet it in my daily life, I wouldn't be offended. If you are going to read I think you have to recognize that a book is an art form and authors use "offensive" material for specific and useful purposes.

Bad writing? ... Seriously. LOL. I got about halfway through this one book, and it had started off so good, but the writing just kind of fell apart. I felt compelled to finish it because you simply *don't* start a book and NOT finish it... but after I was done with it, I was so mad that I had wasted my time on what ended up being a horrible book.

Other than that - no.
