...but we were discussing it on another board and I wondered what you ladies thought.

Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? What did you think?

Did you take it just in fun and enjoy it, or did the writing style put you off or make you annoyed?

Does Christian Grey in any way turn you on?

I have not read them, either. I don't know that it is so much the subject matter that dissuades me, but I am afraid that the writing style would bother me too badly.

I haven't read the books, but one of my close friends has. She wasn't impressed.

Yes, I read the Fifty Shades trilogy about nine months ago and my Greyby was born yesterday.

They are horribly written, repetitive, not exceptionally sexy; but even poorly-written erotica gets one thinking about sex. Thinking about sex leads to wanting it, which leads to having sex, which often leads to having a baby. I read the books so I would know what all the hype was about in the midst of it all. I thought they were mediocre at best and poorly written, but an easy and somewhat enjoyable read. Ian Somerhalder was always Christian Grey in my head, so yes, I found him extremely sexy. The character alone, though, so so on the sexiness.

I tried.. couldn't do it. The writing style was just too awful.

I don't mind erotica, I used to even write it in my younger days.... but no, could not get past the style.

I read them. The writing is bad, I almost didn't continue, but I can't start a book and not finish it. The writing does get better (or I got used to it ). I just took it as a bit of fun. It wasn't really a turn on, but I needed to know what happened (that's the ocd in me I guess?), and I was glad that the focus shifted by the 3rd book. The gasping was driving me nuts though!

I think you just get used to the writing style as you get caught up in the story Jess.

I really enjoyed the first one, I agree it was poorly written, clumsy and repetitive...but I still enjoyed it. Maybe it was just having a change, because I normally read quite involved, spiritual non-fiction.

Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey? Yes What did you think? It. flipping. sucked.

Did you take it just in fun and enjoy it, or did the writing style put you off or make you annoyed? The way the subject matter was handled in the books really ticked me off. The poor writing ticked me off. The whole thing just made me angry.

Does Christian Grey in any way turn you on? No. When I heard that it was a story based from Twilight fanfic, I just couldn't get the image of Edward out of my head... and since I think Robert Pattinson is almost scary looking, it just...yeah. LOL

Ah see now I've never read or watched Twilight. I heard that too, but because I don't have that frame of reference, for me Christian Grey is just Christian Grey.

Consider yourself lucky. Robert Pattinson is naturally ugly, but in Twilight he comes across as an ugly, creepy, pedo with caterpillars for eyebrows and the inability to grasp the concept of hair washing.

Why, thank you LOL.

I tried to watch the Twilight Movies. Watched the first one and was like "Meh". The second one I turned off a few minutes into it and when my boyfriend asked me why - It was "because if I have to see one more slow motion shirtless shot of that <insert previous description of Robert Pattinson here> I'm gonna put my fist through the freaking screen!!"

Ewwww!

I have to say having seen pics of Robert Pattinson I have NO idea what the fuss is about.

There was talk of a Fifty Shades movie, now I sincerely hope they do NOT cast Pattinson as Christian Grey. That may spoil it for me, and I haven't read the other two books yet! noooooooo!

Going off on a tangent, who would YOU want cast as Christian Grey?

For me...Gerard Butler, Viggo Mortensen, or Zach Braff if he could pull off dark (not sure he could).

I haven't read this so am not sure what exactly you mean by dark but I do want to say Zach Braff can pull off serious and tormented and dark very well. He did this great little movie called The High Cost of Living. It was hard to believe this was the same actor who created the JD character from Scrubs...

Ian Somerhalder IS Christian Grey. There is no one else who can be. It just is.

If Ian isn't cast as Christian Grey, I will probably not bother with the movies. They're already going to be taming it down to keep the rating lower and who wants a tamer erotic story?

i read the first one. i meant to read the second and thrird but have not got there yet. i have a a ton of other books on my list to read first and they take dom over the sub.

eh.

read it because friend sked me to. i kept it fun and llight and ignored the style as best as possible. although i still think there could be a great story out what was written, it just didnt get told.

as a whole person, no grey was not a turn on. he was too - demanding. not dom demanding but just demanding. if your a dom okay but keep it in the red room. a lover is not a robot to be told when and what to eat and why or how to eat it. thats just not for me.

as for actor, i do NOT dislike robert patterson. i certainly dont like him as edward, but he is great in other movies. i also do not see him as C.grey.
