I do like the book so far! I have to be honest though, while I was on vacation I read ahead, but I"m going back now to reread part one again!!
I do feel sorry for the whole family. I think the mother is a combination of being hard-hearted and wanting to protect and take care of her children. I imagine that during that time period it wasn't common to have a single mother (usually the husband's family would take car of the,, but as the mother mentioned- her husband did not have a brother or father around).
My favorite character is probably Iris, since she seems to be the main character I know the most about her.
The master is wierd, I dont really have too much of an opinion about him... the whole set up with him is just wierd!
I have to admit the book isnt what I thought it would be. I dont really think that all in all its a bad book. For a while it took me a while to get into it because I had a hard time getting away from all the distractions here at home. But now the book is starting to get good.
As far as the little girls go, I do indeed feel sorry for them. They were uprooted because someone was after them and moved to a totally different country where they find out that their only family left had died a few years back. That in itself is a tragedy. Not to mention the mother coming off as a cold hearted woman. All in all I think that the woman is a very strict very stern person who believes that if she shows any kind of emotional ties to her children, she will be believed to be weak. I think she does care very much for her children but is trying to do the best for them. I also believe that she could lighten up a little and show more affection towards her two daughters especially Iris. As far as characters go I think I am torn between Iris- the strong younger daughter who grows to be responsible for more than herself and her sister, and Casper- the man who is quite mysterious yet gentle hearted and takes a liking to Iris especially as my favorite characters. The master is another story. I think he is a very hard man to read. In taking Iris, her sister and her mother in he shows a side of himself that is kind and gentle but at the same time perhaps comes off as a stern person tothem all. I think that he needs the extra help around the house but at the same time wants to be kind and generous. That he just doesnt know how to.
Well thats what I think so far of the book. Sorry that I havent written my response earlier to this but I am only 10 days away from my due date and lets just say this pregnancy is finally catching up with my body lol. Ill continue to read and answer it just might take me a little longer for I could go anyday now.
