Anyone read horror stories? I have to admit I LOVE a good ghost story.
I have a few compilations but haven't really found a good ghost novel. Anyone?

I hope it's okay to post here Sharon.....I'm an avid reader and haven't found many forums like this. If you don't think I should post here, just let me know.

Anyway......

I remember reading one not too long ago, it was a compilation as well but it was a series of short novellas(for lack of a better word) by Alfred Hitch######. Creepy.

Have you read any of Anne Rice's Mayfair witch novels? Those are a good read too.

Another one that sent chills up my spine and still does is The Shining.

Then there are the true crime stories, this one is particularly creepy as well as a real life mystery: http://www.mysteriesofcanada.com/Ontario/donnellys.htm

I have to say though, I have found it harder to read these types of books or watch these kind of movies since my dd was born in 2002. There must be something behind that....maybe feeding a baby late at night and having an over active imagination??????? lol!

The Shining must be good. I've never read Stephen King, to be honest, always watched the movies (shame on me! ). I'm told that his books are far more frightening.
"The Shining" was a great movie. Maybe this comment belongs more in the movies thread, but there was a second version of the movie and it's was just comical. I mean, a guy who used to be a sitcom star playing the part like Jack Nicholson? Hello? Who thought of that?

I sometimes find Stephen King's books waaay too detailed. Gerald's Game is a pretty okay read(with all sorts of creepy), and Misery was a good read too. Both good and creepy. His books are frightening...

You're absolutely right, the second version of The Shining was laughable. Jack Nicholson does a good psycho! It's those twins that scare me!! I'll move this to the movies thread...
