Do you have triggers that set your brain off a bit?

Mine tend to be things i see on tv or hear on the radio actually. I was in an abusive marriage, and now, whenever i see a show or a song about it, it completely shuts me down for awhile. Not good for my depression that's for sure, but mostly it's almost like an anxiety attack.

Well it's weird but 2 of my family members were murdered on Valentine's day 2008. They were murdered by a family member, not a stranger, but ever since then I have a LOT of anxiety.

Every time someone dies in my family it sets things off for a while. And IDK, that may be what's wrong with me now and why I'm struggling. My grandfather passed last week but about a month before that my brother's wife suddenly died at the age of 47.

I have been to therapy and they say I have a form of PTSD and that what I'm experiencing is normal. I sure wish it would stop though.

Thanks To me my reaction is just weird. I mean I would expect to feel the way I do if they were murdered by a stranger but they weren't. They were murdered by a family member and then he shot and killed himself afterwards so it's not like he's still around to kill anyone else you know?

But it still has freaked me totally out. I'm making progress though. I'm able to sleep alone at night now without checking the doors and windows constantly or having to sleep on the couch. Used to when dh would work nights it was a nightmare for me. Now I'm getting better and I'm much calmer about it. In fact last night I was sound asleep in my own bed by 10 pm with no tossing or turning or worrying about odd sounds or noises outside.
